Would you leave books in school or carry them in bag everyday?

Nowadays the size of my college textbooks are even bigger than a standard Oxford dictionary. I would prefer leaving it in my desk if it were not for the fear of someone taking it. I have to carry all those books in the bag by myself and take them back home also. It's a real drag for me. I wish we had lockers in our college so that it would be easy for most of us to put all those books there itself.
Does your school or college have lockers? What would you prefer to do?
Cheers!

when i was in high school, i don't have lockers too, but i still leave my books in school coz they're too heavy for me to bring. i hide them under the teachers table and sometimes under my chair, the next day, they're still there, so yeah, i did it until i graduated,,, ^^
i only bring back books where we have assignments, but sometimes, i do it while i'm in school, waiting for my parents to fetch me, so i'll have nothing to do when i'm home,,, ^^

In the past, we are not allowed to leave any books in school, thus no matter how heavy our bags are, we have to lug it back home. I did try it once together with my classmates, leaving our books under the desk, while using a cloth or a tee shirt to cover it.
It was good until the afternoon session class started doing the same thing, causing space limitations. Soon we were caught, and thus we have to lug those books home again.
It was not soon before we came up with another idea. We will share books among the other classes, meaning, we will only bring certain books for the day, while our 'friends' from the other class will bring the others. Thus it's a matter of swopping, making all the books available for all classes, when in reality we are only bringing half of them all.

...when i was still in highschool, we don't have any lockers so i bring my books with me from home to school and vice versa..lol, it is the main reason why i keep changing bags..:)...during my college years, i have my own locker already, but the problem is, i don't have any books to put inside my locker since i usually borrow books from my friends..=)

our university have lockers but we rarely or don't use them at all (in the case of our college department) because our dean made it mandatory to make notes of the lectures before we begin, since we follow a modular type of learning. i think she's very clever, since this way, we won't have to carry our heavy duty books around like other schools. we bring notebooks and the smaller sized books (but also not everyday) instead.

Well, I have a car, so what I usually do, is put my books in my car if I need to, I won't carry them all with me.
I go to college as well, and we don't have lockers at my university either, so you really just end up putting everything in your car, your dorm, or your home.
I go to a commuter college, and I live off campus, so I drive back and forth to and from college. I have a lot of heavy books as well, and it is usually bad your first three years of college. When you get to the end of your third year and your forth year of college, it gets a little easier. You have books, but they aren't so big, they are easier to manage.

yeah, books always pose a challenge. now, it is because of its weight. before it is because of its thickness, age, and difficulty to read. its thickness cause difficulty to finish reading the book. its age makes the book fade and sensitive to turn page and touch. authors who write the books have different way, not so simple to read and understand texts. now, students have added another concern on books- weight.

I have never had a locker. My high school didn't have lockers and neither did my college, so there was only one option - I had to carry the books in my bag every single day. That got really heavy sometimes, but I didn't really have a choice. I couldn't leave the books in the classrooms either, because I didn't have my own desk, sometimes I sat in the front, sometimes I sat in the back etc. I was happy as long as I got a seat, because in some classrooms there weren't enough seats for everyone, and the last people who arrived sometimes had to sit on the floor.

H raviteja_ravi84,
I really don't think I would trust leaving my textbooks at school. The textbooks now a day are not cheap, and they all look alike. So, if leave them at shcool and they are stolen, you will not be able to tell which book is yours.
I would just take in my bookbag, just the books that I would need for that day and leave the rest safely at home. Not only will you be saving your back, but you will be saving yourself from having to purchased them all over again, because they were left at school and someone took them.
It would be really nice if the college campuses had lockers. Even if they were renting them, students would have a more secure place to store their books until they are needed.

I never leave my book in school, because in my school this is not allowed. If we left the books in school, the teacher will keep our book and punish us. We have no locker in school, we can only keep book in our drawer, but it has no lock at all, so there are many cases that student lost their books when they leave their books in the school. That is where the rule came. I only bring those book according to my study schedule, so I do not have the problem that I have heavy school bag...

Ya you are right we also don't have any lockers for our book, and our class is used for primary class student after our day end. So its very risky to leave you book there, and we have to carry them to out home and back.It is very hard for me walk with the back like that.In my class most of my friend they don't do that and they took only 2 book with them.Only two books because the teacher of that subject is very strict about the book and about the other teacher's subject they are not strict as those two.But me I was too afraid of the teacher and also I don't want to make them say bad words about me to my parents...........Could you tell me that all of your classmate do carry that kind of heavy bags...........?

I totally agree. It's my first day at Uni today and I'm 'forced' by the professor to buy this textbook which is not really necessary.
I got a shocked when I see saw the book. It is hardcover and super super thick, which means it is super heavy as well. As I have a 5.5 hours break in between my class today, I brought along my laptop. And Oh No, how am I going to lug these two heavy things home?
When I'm alone in school, I have to pack up my laptop and stuff with me whenever I go to the toilet as I am afraid that someone else will take it away. I agree with you that bringing books home is really a drag.
However, I am lucky that my school has lockers. But, I'm not sure if they are still available. Most probably I will go home and register for one when I'm home tonight. Hopefully they still have empty ones.

when i was still studying, i don't have a locker. and so it was very seldom that i have to bring my books everyday. i only bring them if instructions are requiring us to. i don't read textbooks anyway.. hehehe.. only if i need some resources.. i take notes or get a photocopy of some pages i need to have out from the book.

i think the situation is quite different for me. I am in univeristy and live in the school. therefore, i don't need to carry all the book in my bag. what need i do is just to pick the book which will be used in morning/afternoon's classes. Thus, it is not a heavy burden for us to do it. About high school, everyone of us have us own desk, of course, if you are afraid of being lost, you can use a locker to protect them. Anyhow, most of us don't do that.

For practical reasons, I don't want to leave my books in the school. I better have it in my bag and bring everyday. All of the books in my school are hard bound and are not cheap. Most of them are international editions and are quite new. My school have some lockers in some colleges but in our college there is none. But our organization in the college has a lockers in our hang-out. They were from the old members of our organization. It is pretty convenient to have one but having my books at my side is better.

My old school didn't have lockers, so everyone carries all their books and readings with them everyday. It's really tiring but eventually it'll be worth it, right? When I go back to school that's what I'm planning to do. Bring everything I need to school everyday so that I maximize what I learn, and give my best to my studies. Small sacrifices like this will pay out big time in the future.
