In my opinion, to be a true friend, you have to be:
Loyal
Trustworthy
Fun
Sensible
Comforting
..and many more good things besides that!
What do you think makes a good friend? And how would you be able to tell if a person was going to be a true friend to you or not?

I think that there are many things that a person needs to be in able to be a true friend to us. First of all, I think that it is important that our friends be able to listen to us and give us advice when we are going through tough times in our lives. In addition to this, a true friend also needs to be a person that isn't going to talk about you in a different way when you aren't around versus the times that you are there. There are too many people in this world that are backstabbers.

i agree on the qualities you mentioned especially trustworthy, loyal and comforting since we tell them secrets and it is comforting in our part to know that they are worthy for such secrets and they will keep them.
i also believe that true friends are those who tell you the truth even if it hurts, in our own saying 'True friends back stab you in the front' although its grammatically incorrect what we mean is, they'd tell you the truth or their opinions face to face unlike people who'd rather back stab you.
maybe one way of knowing if the friend you have is true is when you are in trouble and they won't leave you behind. they'd help you out or comfort you. and i guess it's just a gut feeling that these people are whom you can trust yourself to.

For me, friendship is meaningful... it is beautiful, never judging, never a hatred, always forgiving, fun, and hopeful. I have so much faith in friendships. I wish i had a very good friend who is always around, who will stick with me all the time, who is God fearing, loving and true to her feelings.
you see, i have this wonderful idea about friendship, i have seen my mom and her best friend and way back their high school days, up until this moment... they have been really good friends... they never judged each other, they never have to even say a single word of thanks anymore because they are like sisters! My moms friend stood up for my mom when no one did, not even her own half sister.. my aunt.
I wish i will also have that kind of friend...

I think only time will tell if a person is going to be a true friend or not. there are no short cuts to gain this information.

A friend indeed a natural need for every human being. A true friend for me need is someone you can relly on, to make you happy when your down, considerate, fashionate, honest and it's not an onion skin.
I am a picky person, I don't trust anyone but I smile at them. I observe a lot and that's how I can see which one would be a good friend.
