It amazes me that even if someone is broke they usually have a television! LOL...we are really hooked aren't we? Leo, a young man that works for me lives in a garage but has a plasma tv.....his friend who just moved into a trailer that has to be remodeled and asked for donations from everyone for pots and pans etc....he also has one. It seems to me that we are so in tune to watching it that almost eveyone has one! Do you know anyone that doesn't have a television?

There is a celebrity chef who stars on a weekly lifestyle programme here in Australia who claims not to have a television and, in his case it is certainly not a money issue; he just doesn’t believe in owning one even though he works on a T.V. show! I have one and lately I don’t watch as much as I used to because I don’t want to be a slave to it. I put it on for company when I’m alone sometimes or watch a particular show I want to see. I have better things to do nowadays than to sit and mindlessly watch a box!

A woman who is 73 that I know doesn't have a tv. A couple I know doesn't have a tv. A man I know doesn't have a tv.
First one, against her religion. Second, threw out their tv when the kids stopped listening to them and were getting fat and lazy, never bothred to get another one. One kid became a horse trainer and competition rider plus got into some horse veteranary. Their other kid started reading and writing a lot. He became a journalist and went to college to become a writer and a journalist. Third one, he has a wood stove and solar for a light in his home, but that's it,he's not hooked up to the grid. He's an artist. So he spends his hours painting.
Oh yeah, I know another guy, he has a farm and he's off the grid, too. I do know some people off the grid who do have tvs. They use a bicycle generator and take turns charging a battery so they can watch it.
With this computer, I could watch tv if I wanted to. So I don't know that I would bother with one. But I would sell my tv to help pay for the pots and pans or to fix something in the trailer before I would ask for donations. Now if people had extra pots and pans they were going to throw out, that would be different. My husband HAS to have a tv. I don't. I don't think I've ever bought one in my life. I know I haven't. The ones we have here were given to me.

My dad has a TV, but he doesn't have cable or Direct TV. He watches a lot of movies on DVD, but otherwise, he does not watch TV. He listens to the radio most of the time when he is in the house, but he also spends a lot of time outside doing stuff in the yard. He also goes over to my aunt's house a lot to watch baseball games with my uncle. He seems to get by well without a TV. He also does not have a computer in his house.

When I was young we don't have TV. So we usually play until we get tired and fall asleep. I really wish we didn't have one so me and my family can have a nice bonding time with each other. Sometimes, instead of making the most out of the time we spent together, we get distracted with TV.

We really don't need a TV set these days because our computers, even our phones can receive the signals sent out.
I can relate to your surprise though because I have several times here, at myLot seen people lamenting the fact that they are struggling financially and can't pay their rent or utilities but they have a computer???! Let's face it...owning a computer is one thing but paying for an internet connection each month is something else. In my opinion, these folk have their priorities wrong...what do you think?

hi jillhill it broke my heart along with all the other horrid things coing on when we had hired a too small truck to move our belongings
to a too small storage space as we had to leave some things namely a big screen television set.,All the rest of our stuff is in storage awaiting the day my son will gatherenough fu nds to get me out of this blasted retirement center and into an apartment of our own. so now I am sadly without a television of any size. so yes I know someone me, and I would love to have even a small set also it could be bundled making my internet less expsensive.

yes i do. I am in school and the class i was in did a little survey about this subject. one person in the class said she does not watch tv. in close proximity to me are amish citizens who do not own any electrical products at all. my wife and i thought maybe we would convert to being an amish. yes a person can convert to amish or any other religious society.

well, you shouldn't be surprised at all... in the philippines, the anomaly in priority is not about televisions, but cell or mobile phones... you may not believe this: even a vagabond has a mobile phone... i've seen some who walk the streets and sleep in pavements, with all their belongings in one plastic bag... and, of all things, they are texting... who? honestly, i don't know and i did not bother to ask... texting another hobo? perhaps, asking where there's a better pavement to pass the night through... ah, the irony... life's.....

A lot! Especially in the rural areas in our country. No electricity and infrastructure is not yet well developed! They use the radio transistor to listen to the news.

No I dont know anyone personally who doesnt own at least 1 television. My daughter always asks me questions like that about if everyone has the specific things shes talking about. I always tell her no there are some people who dont even have houses so no some people dont have televisions or couches or toys etc. Thats probably a hard concept for a 6 year old to understand. If it wasent for my kids I wouldnt even have a tv. I have no need for one for myself. I NEVER watch tv because we dont have cable its to expensive. Another reason is I have movies but I havent watched a movie in over a year. I just never watch movies. I'd rather clean my house or spend my time online rather then sit and watch a movie.

I don't know anyone who doesn't have at least one. I know people that hardly ever watch it, but they have one. The two guys you mentioned that have plasma tv's, should rethink their priorities.

lol true.. Everyone has a television. You can find very cheap ones for like even $20. I guess what differs is the what television people have. How can anyone not have a television it's the thing that keeps us updating and we don't have to do anything but sit and watch. I know there is the internet but not everyone knows how to use that. Tv's are as important as owning toilets nowadays but less so with the internet becoming so popular.

I remember watching black and white shows on tv before. That was during the 60s. And when a neighbor got their first colored tv, people gathered in their house till late at night. Infact there were some who were contented watching the shows through the window pane just to get a better view of colored movies on tv. Now almost everyone has a colored tv at home except those in remote areas where there are still no electricity... and to include the less-fortunate ones. Plasma tv?!!! Throw me one over. My tv is old and at times the characters look all orange... flesh and hair hehehehe.

The only people I've ever known who didn't have a television were those who chose not to have one. They didn't want their children to become corrupted by it, and I can completely understand that with all of the filth on there nowadays. When I have children, I want their television time will be very limited for that same reason and also because there are better things to do in life than watch television all day long.
