I always dreamed that I would be a scientist someday, I asked my folks this question, but none of them seems to know the right answer , and I could say that they are actually unsure of their suggestions, asked my guidance counselor in high school and she couldn't give me a concrete and definite answer... So, I followed my mom's suggestion and took a four year course in biological Sciences, went into Medicine and got a specialty in Internal medicine... I end up being a doctor.. and I felt that I am no where closer to my dreams... My children are now asking me the same question. please help out... What sort of college course do we recommend for children who wants to be Scientist someday? Please help out.

good luck in your studies!!

Actually you could have been a scientist. Here in the Philippines, I think, the 3 courses that people choose from to be scientist are chemistry, physics and biology. That's like the general or first step. After graduating, you can focus on what specialization you want. There's a lot of choices and it also takes a lot of time.

If you want to be a medical scientist, you take course in Medical Science or biomedics. Than go to phD, or something of the sort - for research.
Nowadays things go step by step. In Europe, the Bachelor's is just the base, than the degree after is the one that takes you to research in your area, whichever you chose. If you do well in your first degree, the university might offer you to stay on. I for one, had enough of research so I am stopping.

Scientist as in? Scientist in my understanding is a researcher. Since you are in medicine, why not something in your field? Try and procure a better method of surgery, get into pharmacy/nanotechnology and find a better way to delivery system.
I know a friend of mine who is studying in engineering for the sole purpose of getting into the research field of nanotechnology because he likes working in the lab all day. Working in the lab is awesome stuff, things we know little of is created in some lab in some university and we never knew it existed

I think they can either take up engineering courses or pure science courses such as Physics, Chemistry or Biology. But bear in mind that if you want to take up pure science, it is best to be getting to the level of PhD. But after the course, you must choose to be in research fields as your career to become a scientist one day.
