I'm mad at you. I really thought you had listened when I wrote you this time last year and asked for you to stop all this messy female stuff. I'm 52, dang it. I'm ready. And what do you do? You tease me. You stop for 6 months, and then you not only start up again, but you start up heavy, and for weeks on end. Scarily heavy. What did I ever do to you? Have kids late? I thought I was giving you a break. Have a c-section? Well sorry, I pushed the wrong way, didn't do it on purpose. Anyway, that was almost 10 years ago and you haven't forgiven me? How about some chocolate and we call it even? Sheesh....... WARNING: PERSONS OF THE MALE PERSUASION WHO INADVERTENTLY WANDER INTO THIS DISCUSSION MAY SUFFER SHOCK, HORROR OR SIMPLY INCOMPREHENSION.

I do sympathise Dawn, I really do. I'm fed up and I'm only 44. I don't want this carrying on until I'm in my mid-50s. You haven't got a coil fitted by any chance have you? They're supposed to help..apparently.

Yeah not cheap... but I still have leftovers, so might as well start using them again.

Nope, no coil. I've been using herbal stuff, and it's been really effective, but since I had stopped for 6 months, I had stopped the herbal stuff also...

Oh I see. It's a bit like me with my iron tablets. Haven't got them but hope to get them soon because I'm tired with all this walking lark. I used to take these pre-menopause tablets but they were so expensive I had to stop taking them..they were a natural remedy. Had some Evening Primrose capsules too, but again, they're too expensive to buy.

dawn - the roomie, who isn't quite 50 yet, had the lining of that darn organ cauterized and it has left her alone since - talk to your OB/Gyn about that.

actually this was no more invasive than probably that, they just stuck the thing up there and seared away... I wish they'd just yank mine, never used it anyway!

That is one option, though there's one I like better. Apparently, there's a fairly non-invasive surgery that will cut off the blood flow to the fibroids, but not harm the uterus. So that's a possibility if it doesn't sort itself out.

If you stop bleeding for six months and then bleed again, this is something to discuss with your Gyn. It happened to me. Turned out I had something called, endometrial hyperplasia. Sorry to tell you this, but you need to know. If you want to know more, I'll tell you about it.

Crud, not what I wanted to hear. Sure, tell me all about it. Guess I'd better put in a call to the OB/GYN after lunch. Bah humbug!

The treatment involved endometrial biopsies to determine if the tissue cells are heading toward cancer. I was given progesterone to force a bleed for several months to clean me out. Followup biopsies taken to be sure all is well. I'm fine now, and it hasn't recurred. But, it can be serious. Not something to ignore. Keep us posted! You matter.

Dawny, i mean really. What the hell? Are you two at it again? Chocolate won't work this time. Here, take the bottle. It's the best vodka ever. Enjoy it. TATA.

After reading your discussion and all the responses, oh God I so not look forward to this friendship ship with mine. All the responses have scared the heck out of me. So I have quite a few years yet but I will certainly start praying that when this time comes that mines be nice to me. as I am trying and have tried to treat it very nicely..

My mother had a hysterectomy in her early 40s. I had the same problem as you soon after I had my first child...and it went on for 5 years! I tried everything I could....allopathy...alternative medicine...nothing worked and all of them told me I needed a hysterectomy. Second opinion? I took third and fourth and fifth opinions...all the same...till I met the last doctor who gave me the pills we use regularly to keep things on hold and I was cured in a month!!! And had my second child the next year! I was so relieved to be free again..lol I don't know if I'm mad at my uterus for the 5 years or be happy for the gap :P

For years, my doc had me on the pill...all the time. I didn't have a period at all. The reason was the pain I experienced , mind numbing, bending over double and almost fainting pain. There was no apparent reason for it. My doctor ran away when I was about 45 and my new doctor who I barely remember, took me off the pill and when I was about 48 I began to miss the occasional period. They were only lasting 2-3 days by then. When I was 49, I began to have regular heavy periods again. In July of 2002 I had my last period...I waited and waited and in November I had some slight spotting...somehow, I knew it was going to happen and when it was gone, I also knew that it was finally over. There was no more.

I agree with what others have said make sure it's menopause and not any further problem. I've heard of it comming and going when menopause is tip toeing around the corner. This is why I told DH I wish I had a historectomy after having my last child. I'm not having any more kids so why own it?!?! I don't want another period, we're done.

I'm not too worried, I did have an ultrasound and a biopsy back in May, but if it doesn't stop right quick, I will definitely have it checked!

Oh you are sooooooo not alone. My uterus doesn't like me either. Three C-Sections later, my uterus loves to play the same dirty little tricks on me. I had years of the lightest periods known to mankind (I guess womenkind). Then the kids came (all c-sections). After my daughter I had the heaviest period ever...even had surgery to calm them down. I actually thought I was going through "the change" this past year. Yeah, well forget it!!! I guess I should take stock out in feminine products as I will probably still have my period when I am 100!!!!!

I took the warning and yes I do not understand everything at all but I seem to get that you have period problem and at your age you shouldn't have a period at all, right? Check your Ob just to check your condition. I'm worried for your condition hope it just nothing.

It's been an ongoing thing, the OB is aware of it, but not that it has all started up again, so I'll be checking with her if it keeps up.

I'm so sorry you've gone through this. I consider myself lucky that once it stopped that was it and then I got the hot flashes that made me turn red all over but that's nothing compared to what you've been through.

hi dawnald after my second child, my uterus was badly torn and thus no more children and total hysterectomy . the way the surgeon worded it I might have been able to get pregnant but the like hood wou ld be premature birth and a ruptured uterus with emergency surgery. We had wanted three children and my primary doctor was of the opinion that I should have one more first, but the other doctor said no, too risky, she cannot carry it to term.So life does alter things, and even worse, we lost our little girl when she was just eight. so no three children no two children but I have a wonderful adult son whom I am very proud of

My uterus stopped all that female messy stuff two years ago on and off. Now everything has been off for at least six months but has been replaced by hot flushes which drove me crazy until I gave in to HRT against my better judgement. It’s not fair that, as females we have to go through all this crap, darn it!

If I can be quite honest, this is one thing in life that I am really not looking forward to. I hope that I could possibly be like my mother and just have a partial hysterectomy when my time comes so that it will be a wham, bam, thank you ma'am change in life for me. However, I don't have the medical issues that my mother had, so I don't know that it will be an option for me. Have you consulted with your doctor about taking birth control pills to help regulate yourself through the transition period?

Poor Dawny. Tough - I know. But lucky me, I dont bleed as much now. But symptoms are terrible. Make me want to hide somewhere. Luckily, I dont perspire as much now as I used to a couple of years ago. Wish CT was around. He'd have given some medication for that excessive bleeding. Not good. :(
