Are Any Of Your Cats Greedy?

I wouldn't say my own cat is greedy. In fact, some days she will eat more than others but she does eat every day.
Mum's cats had a sad background which determines how they behave now. Basically, they were left behind in a locked shed whilst the owners moved house. They are a mother and daughter combination and were 2 and 1 respectively when Mum plucked them from the local shelter.
Even then Ellie (the mother) was rotund and is a lot bigger than her sibling. However, Mum has a theory as to why Ellie always beats Soxx to the food (they have seperate bowls but Ellie will eat some of Soxx's food before Soxx attempts to have some) and it's this..
Well, when they were both in a shed a kind, elderly neighbour would feed them (how, I don't know) and I bet you any money that Ellie beat Soxx to the food. "Survival of the fittest" and all that. So this behaviour is repeating itself. Don't get me wrong; Soxx is by no means underweight but isn't it sad how original owners of cats can treat them like that..abandoning them? It's cruel!
They're such lovely cats too. I'm so pleased they have now been at Mum's for about 4 years or so and loving every minute of it, I have to say.
Whatever the circumstances of the owners, surely they could've come up with something instead of just leaving them behind like that? They had kids too..what an example to set for their children.

of course, they give life to my home, they're always cheerful, they're always playing with you, and I'll say something that you may think it's weird, I feel they can communicate with me, it's strange, but I feel that kind of conections with my pets...

I don't think that's weird at all. I reckon cats understand every word we say to them which is why I'm constantly chatting to mine. Sometimes, she chats back..in her own little way of course..so no, you're not strange.

It could just be that Ellie is the dominant cat.
My cats aren't greedy, but I do have one who is overweight. He is not the dominant cat either, the others all push in front of him.
People abandon animals all the time. Don't get me started.

I read an article about a goat in a sanctuary having its horns ripped off its head earlier. The owners are distraught as you can imagine and are appealing for witnesses. The RSPCA just can't believe the level of cruelty involved I thought about posting it on here but it would upset too many people as there was a pic and the poor thing had to be put down.
Yes, you are probably right about Ellie being the dominant cat. She likes being first to the food but Mum keeps her eye on Soxx just in case Ellie polishes off her share..then she'll put some more out when Ellie has scarpered off!

Yes, all of them. They love to have their food, their couches and their stuff all to themselves. Goldie gets mad at me if I move her from her space.

LOL. I had a cat that would sit on my lap, then I'd get up, move away to go to the loo or something, come back and there she was, sat in my spot. I'd obviously warmed the space up for her. Then I would place her back on my lap and the cycle started all over again!

Yes, I have some cats that are very greedy.. and none are overweight.. they are just more food aggressive. In fact one of them my little Squirt is only 5 lbs. and she has been like this since she was a kitten. she had one brother in her litter so it's not like they had to fight for food. But before she was even 8 weeks old she would come up to me when I was eating and literally try to grab food from my hands.
When I did offer her some, she grabbed food so aggressively that I decided I could not give her to anyone because I would feel bad if she bit a small child trying to steal his food or that someone would not just deal with her quirk and have her put to sleep because they weren't careful and got bit.
she is otherwise very affectionate. Just don't ever try to feed her out of your hand, or you may not come back with all of your fingers. :-)

We got our cat, Pumpkin, from a shelter about 2 years ago. He was, apparently left to fend for himself when he was little more than a kitten. He came to the shelter and was fostered for a while by one of the volunteers. No one knows what he went through when he was on his own, but I have a feeling it wasn't good.
Yes, he is a piggy, and he can be quite feisty at times. He is very skittish, and somethimes it's best to just let him alone. He will strike out, and he has hurt me pretty bad a time or two, but he can be very loving when he's in the mood.
He really has gotten better as time goes by, and I wouldn't give him up for anything in the world.

How kind of you to look after Pumpkin after his ordeal. Mum's cats never fail to amaze me because they are so friendly, especially Ellie, who is the "greedier" of the two. Her daughter, Soxx is actually quite timid which may explain why she stands by her bowl until her Mum eats some (not all) of her food. She respects her and they never fight in an aggressive way. Oh, and they purr a lot too!

Sad the way some people just abandon their pets. They don't give a care what happens to them. If one can't take care of a pet it is better not to get one. Herve every July when moving day comes along hundreds of pets are just abandoned So sad! I'm glad these cars found someone to take care of them. Good work!

most of the greedy ones i'd had actually were not rescues-they were cats i'd adopted as kittens and were always mine, being greedy because they resented new arrivals.the concept of charity towards a waif didn't fly with them lol
i have multiple feeding stations for my 6 because the tortie will lord it over the bowl if i don't.she is bad.
one of my current three rescues was left behind like that-my friend found it in an empty apartment where he worked-and then he lost his place,so i took her.but the poor thing's 3 years old and has had 3 owners now.
people often assume wrongly the pet will be found immedietly, but that's not always the case.landlords don't always go right in after move out.and what do they think the landlord's going to do with the pet anyhow?

That Blobby bloke I told you about once..he was the type to leave the cat under floorboards which is why he came back with me to Mum's. No way would I have left him with Blobby as I didn't trust him.
As for torties..don't get me started! Had two so far and both of them were evil..but cute in their own little ways!

Our two cats are sisters so they have the exact same upbringing and family, but they are so different in their personalities that it is amazing. Their names are Patches and Mitzy. When they were younger Mitzy would always come up to me for cuddles and Patches would never come anywhere near me. Now that they are a little older, Patches is the affectionate one who is always around us.
As soon as someone sits on the couch, she will be there sitting on theri lap. Mitzy does not want anything to do with human contact. She desperately wants to be outside all the time. She is an explorer and is always looking for adventure. Patches does not care too much for climbing to the heights of everything she can get to and is more relaxed.
Except when it comes to feeding time! Patches is a bigger cat now and I think this is due to the fact that she races to the food quicker than Mitzy and scoffs hers down so quick a lot of the time that she ends up eating some of Mitzy's too. We give them a bowl each with an even amount, but they do not end up eating the same.

I will never understand the cruelty that many people show when it comes to animals like cats and dogs. One of my daughter's friends was telling her how she deals with unwanted litters of kittens...just throwing them in the river and walking away. It chills my blood when people can say such things without a hint of guilt or regret, as if it's perfectly acceptable. Abandoning a pet like that is just plain criminal.
My cats add so much to my life, I would never want to lose them. Mind you, I don't put them on the same level as my daughter but they are a close second place in my heart. When my daughter is all grown and gone, my kitties will still be there loving me and needing me, filling my life with a happiness and contentment that would otherwise be absent. Anyone who cannot respect that little life and take responsibility for it should never have a pet.
I'm glad your kitties found you, my friend! May they give you many years of pleasure!
