I've been doing everything I can to save up money to buy a house. Working 60 hour work weeks, clicking like crazy online. Yet, it's still not enough for a down payment on a house. Any ideas or tips you people have for me?

Hello. I certainly understand what you are saying. I have gone through that tough time myself too. On one hand, one has to find ways to make earnings, some times working two jobs, one day-shift, one night-shift, and even over the weekends. On the other hand, one has to cut down on the expenditure side, especially when the costs are rising. Best wishes to you, and hope you will have a nice home soon !

It seems that in today's day & age, it would be tough for a single person, even if working at two jobs, to save up for a house. Then there's the mortgage. Furthermore, it would take a decent credit history to get a decent mortgage to pay the rest of the cost of the house off. It seems to me that it would take the combined income of a couple to even think about it. One word of advice on the mortgage. Get a fixed rate mortgage. Many people got caught in a bad way when a variable rate mortgage started off at a lower interest rate, & then suddenly down the road, the interest rate jumped up higher than that fixed rate, & then the required payments ended up too high to pay. However, the last I heard, in order to come up with a decent mortgage, one can probably put down 20% or more of the cost of the house. That may have changed. There would be no background or credit checks. I'm not sure what kind of a mortgage one would get, however, but hopefully, it would be decent & reasonable. At the same time, it does become that much less to have to pay on a mortgage.

You need to have a long term plan, it doesn't usually happen over night. So keep trying to make and save as much as you can, but give it at least a couple of years. You will get there, you just need to be patient and not give up too soon. I am currently doing this, and every little bit does add up, the hard thing is not so much the saving, but not dipping into the savings or giving up.

Hi. I know how hard it is to save. Since I have been doing the same, I guess I can share it with you. I allocate a part of what my husband gives me and don't touch it, no matter what. My husband does the same. We have invested these small amounts in fixed deposits of one year tenures which gives more interest than savings accounts. And whatever extra money we get goes into that account. I try not to spend unnecessarily for things I don't need. And most of the time, I use fresh veggies and purchase grocery in bulk if it costs less. But you have to be careful to store them properly. I use the public transport nowadays to save on my transport expenses. And I don't waste money on fast food. I cook at home. I do go out to eat, but very rarely. Hope this helps.
