I love music but it seems that music doesn't love me. No kidding, I've been practicing how to play guitar for almost 3 years but there's no improvement. My friends said it would be best to play music by heart and surely you'll learn fast but that's my problem because I don't know how to do it.I'm in great trouble with this stuff!

Simply just knowing the notes and chords is NOT enough! I have been playing now for about 27 years. And mostly when I listen to others play I can tell within 5 seconds usually if they are playing with feeling. Every single note that is executes tells a story and tells me what feelings you are using with them as well. Playing a instrument meaning ANY instrument requires everything! With guitar there are many things you need to know of? Notes, chords, techniques, timing, tuning, tones, scales, how to work the instrument to its fullest capabilities. etc... But ALL of this has to also go along with feelings. Meaning every feeling you have inside you will show on the strings. If you are happy, mad, sad, and so on it shows and you have to execute these things to the strings along with everything else and that take allot of practice to do! Last but least and but first? Practice practice practice! There can never be enough practice and yo will NEVER stop learning! EVER! Anyone who says they know it all is a liar and full of themselves! If they did then all the song would be written and there would never be anymore styles to come out. You may even need lessons to bring things out you do know how to? Lessons are up to you. But most people out there actually need them. Not everyone is a prodigy as they like to think they are or can be. If you really love music you will d what ever it takes! Get books, play along with cd's to know when you are missing something? You can never do enough if you are serious about it! Know what you are applying and be bale to do it again and again and again! Improvisers to me suck! I see someone that says ya I can play. And they crank out this decent solo. The you ask them to play it again? They cannot! hey don't even know what they did! Sorry that is NOT a musician.... And again? Practice! I would say minimum of 2 hrs a day at least 6 days a week or more! The more the better!

Hello abish. Don't feel frustrated yet. In a span of three years, how often do you go and touch the guitar, and spend quality time with it? I am not an expert. Surely I don't even surpass a beginner's level but one thing is important for a start. First - passion and love for music. Second - raw talent. At least you have a slight innate idea of proper rhythm, timing, and beat. It is also vital that you don't go out of tune. I am not saying you had to be a great singer. But at least you can go with the flow. Third - you need chord charts. Go buy one. There are books on guitar lessons for beginners. You see, it's not enough to just have the "heart" for it. You need formal back-up. Fourth - Be a keen listener. Expose yourself to music, and familiarize yourself with the beats. Tap on boards, or pretend to strum a guitar so you can be attuned to the rhythm of songs. Fifth - keep practicing. There are a lot more but I hate rambling on until my response is a chapter long.

If you want to play them well, you must think that music love you same as you love music first. We can't do well any thing which we think that they're not like us.

You've got to feel it. Or maybe you just need to spend more time "making love" with your guitar, if you know what I mean...Practice harder and your music will reward you soon enough, or will love you back perhaps...
