Two questions. If Tony knew Gordon would be a disaster why did he let him succeed him? Did he really believe that we could topple Saddam, dissolve the Iraqi police and military, and expect the country to magically rebuild itself?
From the Guardian newspaper:
Tony Blair: I knew Gordon Brown would be a disaster

• Blair on Brown: 'Emotional intelligence: zero'
• I didn't see Iraq nightmare coming, says Blair
Tony Blair came to the view that Gordon Brown would be a disaster as prime minister and that Labour could not win the 2010 general election, he reveals in his long awaited memoirs.

My own opinion is that he wasn't too bothered what happened after he left No 10. He left Gordon in a mess and went off to pursue his own agenda: the UK was no longer his problem and he was now sitting pretty.
On Iraq he was advised by British Intelligence that his claims (45 minute attack warning and WMD) were all flaky, and that an invasion would . He sent troops into Iraq to divert public interest from domestic matters, and because he wanted to be seen as a 'world leader'.
I might be too cynical, but I'd like to know what others think.

blair didn't care. i don't think brown was leadership material, although he could have been competant in less high profile positions, and he really struggled. thing is incompetant as brown might have been i still would take him over blair any day. blair was sneaky and scheming imo
