What drives me nuts is when pedestrians purposely do not cross at cross-walk (where they have the right of way) and cross in the middle of the street, without looking, and just expect everyone to stop for them. And, as you point out, they walk very slowly! Why is it so hard to walk the extra ten feet to the cross walk? It is so much safer for pedestrians and drivers--especially when the pedestrians have kids with them. If it's not a busy street, then it isn't that big a deal, but why not practice a little caution (and common sense) when crossing a busy street?

suxieqmom did you ever stop to think that some of us elderly p eople walk as fast as we can and what would you have us do, fly? surely you can spare an extra m inute rather than try to run over an elderly lady doing the best she can in a crosswalk when she has the green light?
We are not as often the menace as you in heavy cars that run red lights.

If you are in the crosswalk where you belong, then I have no problem at all waiting for you to cross, no matter how long it takes. My point was about people who don't cross in the crosswalk--and no, I don't think being elderly entitles you to break the law and cause a safety hazard. The crosswalks are there for a reason, so use them. BTW, my 80-year-old aunt walks 3 miles every morning and it takes her 20-25 minutes, and my 93-year-old great uncle still power walks several miles a week. So I think that stereotyping elderly people as being slow walkers is not accurate, and not too nice, either.

i am afraid to across in a road which is busy, and aside from that i don't want to run just to pass by in that road so i would rather wait to stop first the vehicle before i go,or if there is over pass i will choose to go that way for my safeness.

Well not exactly walkathon but people in my city are experts at jay walking. You can see them everywhere and I too am guilty of it. we’ve just be brought up this way…we seldom wait for the signal to turn green or to find a zebra crossing and then cross the road…we just wave to the coming cars and busses and cross the road wherever convenient.
