Hey MyLotters,
This is a serious issue. My sister's child has become fond of drinking cold drink.Whenever he figures out a tag "Coca cola" being written on it,he sceams like hell like "Mummyyyy,Coca,Coca,Coca....",meaning he wants to drink Coca Cola and if he finds that his mummy is not interested in buying one for him,he gets laid on the road and starts throwing his hands and legs until he is able to draw his mummy's whole attention in buying a Coca Cola. And furthermore,he does this everytime he is taken out of home with his parents!
Now,she's become very tensed about his attitude. Is it really unhealthy to drink cold drinks everyday?Or my sister has to visit doctor with her child to discuss about this issue? Please, help.
Thanks
Happy MyLotting!!

You're talking about Soda right? Drinks like CocaCola have a high sugar content which isn't good for children. Adults should only drink 1 can a day if any which means if your sister's child is drinking a lot of Soda and Juice and not much water a lot health problems could occur. The one thing that could happen in Type 2 Diabetes because soda can make one gain more weight because of the calories.
Children shouldn't be drinking any soda in the first place. My children aren't allowed to. They drink milk, water, and sometimes when we're out Juice, but I try to water it down. Since your nephew seems to be addicted to wanting sugar drinks you sister is going to have to use some tough love to get him to stop.
The other problem is the way he's acting. Honestly, I'd just let him lie in the sidewalk throwing a tantrum. Giving into a child who does that just encourages them to do it even more. So if she wants that attitude to stop, she needs to stop giving in. It's going to be harder since he already knows something else but unless she's willing to give into every whim he wants when he gets older, it's just going to get worse and worse and worse case scenario is he winds up in jail because of thinking like that.
For the soda, she should talk to the doctor about it and discuss different alternatives on how to deal with the drinking and the acting. The doctor should have some good advice, but it all comes down to how she wants to handle the situation.

Hello yoursjannat,
I do not think it bad drinking cold drinks everyday. As long as your brush your teeth if the drinks are sugary in nature. If cold water than as much as you want.
Soda you can give him gingerale, sprite, lemon lime which has less sugar and hardly any caffine in it to make them hyper etc...
They also have the small cans half the side of regular can and he will never know it is not the full drink. That way he will be drinking less and you guys breahte a sigh of relief. yes, children can be handful. But children should not rule the parents it should parents rule there children until they are 18 years of age.
Thanks and have a great day!
Sincerely unique16

Dear friend,
The cold drinks could be tasty but I am sure it is not good for health, even experts, scientists, doctors and other social people quotes it is not better for health. Even liqour is injurious for health still lots of people are addicted to it. Hope it is better to avoid such drinks and that too regular consumption.

I think that this all depends on your cold drink of choice. If you are drinking some kind of cola, everyday use is probably not wise for good health and nutrition, These things need to be taken in moderation. Cold juices would be a much healthier choice.

addicted to cold cola drink. If the child is young i think it is not health for the child because it very sweet and may rot the child teeth.Anyway, tantrum and forcing the mom to buy with that method is bad behaviour , next time the child will do tat whenever the child wants something and this is bad. Personally i think the child should be discipline and bad tantrum should be stopped.

This is the problem in every family where there are kids.It is very difficult to control them. I would suggest that in such situation the mothers be advised to carry natural fruit juice from orange or apple or grapes in a bottle with always whenever or where ever they go. That may help a little. Even if you consult what advise can he give. He will say 'avoid cool drinks for children' I feel there is no use in consulting a doctor. Mothers also should make forum and consult each other.

my nephew had his own coca cola phase wherein he was ADDICTED to it. that was when he was turning three. my aunts decided to introduce him to chocolate milkshake (actually, milkshakes of different flavours and colours) and since then he loved it! i know it's difficult correcting kids especially when they're "always right", so i suggest working with them, introducing them to different drinks, and a lot of positive reinforcement (praising them when they drink milk or juice, as opposed to fretting whenever he drinks pop)

Hi pink,
Thank for your honest advice.Parents should have to be hard enough sometimes to teach their child that they can't have all the things they want in their life.Still they have to adjust or be contented with what they have.
Thanks

Hi,
I seldom drink cold drinks....once a while is fine for me,but
not everyday,or else, I might easily get cough.
It goes same to my son. Since he has his last cough last month, I have
stopped giving him anything cold from the fridge.
I used to buy him Vitagen, but now temporary I will have to stop
him for consuming those kind of drinks. I also have disallowed him
to drink any soft drinks which is not good for him.
Everyday, I will encourage him to drink plenty of water.
I have to explain to him slowly why he need to drink plenty of water.
As you know, kids scare to go doctor especially for injection.
So I will told him" better drink lot of water,or else, when fall sick, throat
will pain and might need go for an injection",then my son will get my
message and he will drink plenty of water everyday. Even when
he is at school, I do give him a big bottle of water and I also remind the
teacher to give him drink lot of water.
Give some advices to your sister to let her child know what is the consequences
of drinking those cold drinks...don't over pampered the child or else, we will get ourselves into trouble.

Hi,
Doctors say it is. They say it inflates your tummy and increases the level of blood sugar in your blood, which may, in the long run, have ill effect on your heart as well. But I don't believe a single word they say. I love drinking cold drinks, if possible, everyday. Thanks.
God bless you

Your sister should try to explain the kid how unhealthy Coca Cola is. It destroys the digestive system much. Maybe she would get her aim by picturing to the kid that he will be ill after drinking so much Cola. However she should do it when the boy is calm, not when he's already screaming to get his drink. And to tell the truth, it looks like he's already quite spoiled.. Maybe she should also tell him that if he doesn't behave well she won't be taking him with herself. Once he promises to behave himself and doesn't keep the promise she should punish him in a slight way (eg. "no sweets today"). Maybe it looks like strict way of treating, but once a kid is already spoiled only such way will work..
