Dengue fever is in the air. In fact, the most number of cases is just around the corner. My corner! So when my daughter announced she can't make it to school because of severe headache and fever, I went ballistic! Dengue? Didn't I tell you to drink enough water? What time did you sleep last night? No thesis is worth it! Why abuse your body for grades! Hell with that term paper! You know dengue cannot penetrate the blood system if you are not weak! And so on and so forth. And then I groped for the paracetamol, boiled some water for hot tea and ordered my daughter to keep the ice pack on her head. Sigh! This is the part of motherhood I hate most. It is not just the all night vigil that makes me weary, but the fact that I do not know what my enemy is. I consider illness a formidable foe. Shucks, I just hate it when it comes.

Yes Nick, but I also called on His Mother because She was the one Who took care of Him when He was feeling bad, too.

Nope. I relived our Lord's life through the mysteries of the rosary. I do that with the Blessed Mother.

Thanks for the info, Knight. Am glad though that my daughter has no rashes. And I did have her vaccinated for chicken pox when she was in the 2nd grade. The doctors ruled out dengue. My daughter was simply overworked. She had not any vacation for two years straight. Her practicum entailed so many hours last summer and her thesis had driven her to eat up the sleeping hours this semester. But she is well now. Thank God!

It's like the reincarnation of Chicken Fox, the difference of it now is that virus had been asleepy in the body. only awaken if the body and immune system weakens. that explains my head ache, sight problems, and a bit itchy on the part where the zortes came out.
Herpes zoster is also called Shingles.....
If you're daughter had a chicken fox already. and then her immune system becomes weak due to CONSTANT stress/ Sleepless nights. there's a high chance she could get it too.

This is Serious Eileen.i guess she needs to get rid of that Dengue first....

hi eileenleyva I also hated that as you always felt so helpless when your kids were ill. and dengue fever does sound serious. I though mosquitoes were the carrier and their bite introduced it into t he victim's bloood stream? But I hope you did get her to the doctor for medical help. I know little about dengue but it sounds really bad. hope she gets well soon and you canhold out till help comes. take care of yourself too eileen.

Thanks Hatley, Blue Angels, too. My daughter is up and about now. Got a clean bill of health after a CBC (complete blood count) test. It was fatigue. My daughter had a 72 hour marathon writing the second chapter of her thesis. The school activities had been stressful and the weather is as dreadful as ever. The body just gave up. The doctor advised a thousand milligrams of Vitamin C daily.
Sigh! I still don't like it but I guess every mother had to go through those scary moments when you look at your child and she is so still and her face so red, you touch her and she is so hot, and you do not know how to diminish her pain, and you wait and wonder how much more she has to suffer. I had offered myself to be in that situation instead of my daughters. At least I know what to do. But I guess the children has to undergo such sickness, too.
I am just thankful our Lord up there had healed my daughter.

And that is real motherhood in total. It is seen in full only in times of emergency like that. So caring, so loving, so dedicating.....that is motherhood. Kids are always kids and they don't know why the mother is so serious and sometimes furious when they are ill. But that strict care is necessary at that time.

My daughters are both grown ups now. They are busy with college work. So I thought that my mothering days are over. All I had to do is to prepare their food, keep their clothes clean, and accompany them whenever and wherever they need be. I was done making decisions for my girls. In fact, they make the calls for me . But when my daughter got sick and had to sleep on my bed all the duration of her fever and headaches, I had to shift mode and administer a mother's tender loving care again.

Hi,
I can understand your feeling. When my son was not feeling well,
that is the most hate part of my motherhood. I will have sleepless
night and full of worries.I also can't sleep well even though he feels
better, only when he is fully recover ,then I will be able to get my
sleep.
That is why I always advise my son to drink plenty of water,be it, at
school or at home. I also do boil barley water for him to drink
twice a week.Eat more vegetables and fruits and avoid those junk foods.
MUst remember to wash hands clean before eat.
Dengue fever is very dangerous illness and it is killing.
Get your daughter to hospital for medical assistance if her condition
is not getting better.
Hope she will recover soon and takecare!

Hi shia, my daughter has recovered and she is up and about. But she did give me a scare. Do take care of your son. You are correct in not giving him junk food. That is the surest way to bad health.

Oh, now I am thinking of those over reactions I usually hear from my mum like your scenario. She zooms up so quickly like a missile but you know Madam? I'm so lucky to have a mum like my mum. When she said that if a child is only educated in school, is uneducated. That made me realize how great my mum really is.

Ha ha, and I thought I was the only missile mom. Kumar, send your mom flowers. It feels good to have surprises every now and then. Oops, the gift without the giver is bare, so I think you have to bring the bouquet in person. Your mom would love that.
Angel, that is really a thought, how we become calm after assessing our situation. We see the dilemma through, figure out solutions and make things right again. I'd sign in for motherhood anytime!

Hiya kumar,
Your Mom is a very good Mom. We are like that us Moms we have that instinct in all of us it just comes out when someone starts to look ill or starts crying. It´s just there we use whatever we have to try and remedy the situation.
However the bigger the problem we have the ability to remain calm and see it through also.
Best wishes to your Mom.

Hola Sra.,
Indeed, I am one of the lucky ones. I have a great mother. The fact that I did not really appreciate that when I was still a dependent. That during my adolescence I always got irritated with actings like that. She'll start at the higher level but calming down with her tender advice in the end though.
Thanks a lot!

What spreads dengue fever? I know we are entering into the time when people are worried about colds, and flu and asthma here. I do not have those problems. I perhaps catch a cold one time a year. I hope your daughter catches up on her rest and fights off whatever it is that is making her so tired and feverish.

Dengue is a fatal disease that is caused by four strains of virus that comes from mosquito bites. Since the rainy season had started, the mosquitoes are breeding fast. The children are most likely the victims of dengue because they couldn't verbalize correctly the pain and the fever. By the time they get treatment, the dengue virus had spread rapidly and had caused internal hemorrhaging in four or five days.
My daughter just had undergone fatigue. The bad weather had lowered her immune system. She has to walk up a footbridge to get to her college everyday. The strain was just too much. But she is better now. Thanks GardenGerty.

Hi Eileen,
Ok, I'm feeling really really dumb here but I have never even heard of Dengue Fever. I saw Hatley's comment saying it had to do with mosquitoes so I'm thinking that we refer to it by another name here. Anyway, I do know how you feel when the kids get sick. Last year it seemed that my daughter caught every virus that passed through. It was a nightmare. I hope that this year is healthier for her. Hope your daughter feels better soon. I agree with you on this being the part of motherhood that is the worst of all.

Hi sid, ours is a tropical country and when the rainy season commences, the mosquitoes breed rapidly. Dengue had taken many lives, especially those of children's in the past decade. What is scary is there are now four strains of virus. Medical health practitioners are advising the public to take extra precaution because a fifth strain might be just around the corner.
My daughter got bit by a mosquito. That was why I almost had taken leave of my senses. I didn't know what else to do when my daughter was just lying on the bed, hot with fever and red-faced, quiet and still.
You are right, sid, a child's illness is a mother's nightmare.

Hi Blue, my daughter was tested negative for dengue but just when I thought she was already okay, the more she felt weak. I had to bring her to another doctor. The fever is out now and she could take in solid food. But I was drained physically.

Hello, Eileen.:)
I am a mother also and I can very well relate to that. I don't mind taking care of my kids 24/7 as long as they are healthy. I was in a situation before when my daughter was always hospitalized every other two months. The last one was the worst of all because her veins collapsed thus making it difficult for nurses to insert an IV. She needed the IV because she was already dehydrated from vomiting and lbm. This prompted me to give up my job...
I can endure anything except worrying about my kids health and life. Right now, she has a cold and cough. I'm glad to symptoms of dengue or any serious illness.
This link might help you calm down re dengue attack.

I am happy to know you are a hands-on mother. No one can ever replace a mother's tender loving care. And your children are specially blessed because they have you for a mother, most especially that one who is frequently sick and whose veins collapsed in dehydration. I am sure she fought for her life just for you. God bless you eureka and your children, too.

I am not yet a mother, although I understand where you're coming from, cause I am also protective of my younger brother, he's the baby of the family so we tend to worry a lot when it comes to him. hehehe. Don't worry too much, and if it is really dengue then it wouldn't have any problem specially when you caught it early. With prayers and of course lots of rest and medicine, I'm sure you're daughter would be fine. God Bless!

Hiya eileen,
I feel like that when these here get very bad colds through too much staying out late drinking very cold things and eating that junk stuff they make out there.
Still just the same like you I see them through and help them out even if it is 3 o´clock in the morning whatever.
I hope your Daughter is much better now and that is was´nt the Dengue after all was it that? She might have been coming down with something else. Too much stress can bring on a Cold as well so I have been told.

Hi,
It is because of this anxiety, this fear and weariness that motherhood is considered the most important role an woman can every play in her life. I remember a scene from the film The Passion of Christ. When Jesus was carrying the cross through the narrow lanes of the town, Mary was watching from behind the mass. She was crying, I wonder if there is any means that can measure the depth of sorrow she was having that time. Then Jesus stumbled and was about to fall on the ground with the heavy load of the cross. Mary came running and held him by her hands like she used to do when Jesus was a mere child. When Jesus in his childhood used to play, Mary kept vigil all the time though she might be doing some chores. If by any chance Jesus fell on the ground Mary came running after him to see if everything is okay. Motherhood is next to divinity. I have so much respect and feelings for you mothers. Thanks.
God bless you

Well of course that thing also I've hated most. Dengue is really a hard foe and the hardest thing about dengue, the common victims are children. The Best thing we can do so as to avoid such dengue is to clean our surroundings thoroughly.

Hi Sphinx, there was a huge 5 foot ten adolescent boy that was admitted for dengue in the hospital where I brought my daughter for blood test. Dengue is recently forming a fifth virus strain, or so I heard from the news. The mosquitoes are feeding on our children and no matter how I keep my surroundings clean, the little vamps come and help themselves to sumptuous sucking.

Tnx yoga, my daughter has an impish smile on her face now. The house arrest, according to her, was not as condemning as it sounded. For the first time in years, she had was peeved by the cellphone messages. Back to hyper mode in a few hours... And moi? ! My kitchen needs cleaning. And the laundry piled up. Sigh!
