Question for laundry mat goers

I was just wondering about something and thought I'd ask some of the people here on mylot. I know a few of you use a laundry mat to wash their clothes, some dry their clothes at home. My question is, how much would you say you spent a month on the machines at the laundry mat, I believe they are a quarter or fifty cents to run most of them, and so I was just wondering how much money a month do you say you put in to a washing machine at your local laundry mat. For those who have drying racks, where did you get yours and how much did it cost? Is it efficient? My husband and I are considering our options as far as getting a place goes. If we get an apartment we would need to use a laundry mat or bring the clothes back here to wash. On another note, I have an impromptu interview tomorrow! My husband and I were going shopping yesterday and I happened to ask the clerk (who happened to be a manager) when the new store would open and she told me to come by tomorrow and we'd talk and she'd give me an application! Keeping My fingers Crossed and Praying!

I do not go to the laundromat, but I do have a drying rack. Cannot get anyone into the habit of using it much, but it is good for things that will be damaged by the dryer. It was around $10 in the section of Wal Mart where the ironing boards etc. are. It might be as much as $12 or $13 by now. I would rather do stuff like put clothes on hangers on the shower rod to dry.I think the last time I went to a laundromat the machines were at least $1.25 each. You could get a front loader that did double for $2.00 I believe. Good luck on your interviews.

I have seen in some catalogs somewhere a kind of washer that you hook up to your kitchen faucet. I do not think it was that expensive. If I see it again I will let you know where. If you put stuff on hangers, it will also help if you run a fan to stir the breeze for the clothes.

I would appreciate it! Hmm but I wonder if a heater would do the same and help knock the wrinkles out while it's at it?

I think just hanging clothes on a hanger on the shower rod would do the same thing so we may do that if we have to. Another option I thought of, and it would be around $1000.00 is to use a whirlpool washer that is manual. I forget what they are called and I am not even sure if they make them anymore, but I believe you use a hose and you use a crank to hand tumble the wash. Of course we can't count our chickens before they hatch, first things first is going to this interview and hoping to win the lady over. After that we can start budgeting and looking around. My husband and I also want to fit into our budget if we can, a few extra bucks here and there to help his parents pay off the mortgage.

The apartmant my husband and I are thinking about going for is a studio so no washer and dryer connections but a wash room on site. I actually remember $10 to $20 having to pay when friends and I did our laundry and that was all of us once a week. We're just thinking of all the expenses while we can.

First of all Good Luck For Your JOB!!! For us laundry is in our apartment complex, very ear to our unit so it is really convenient for me. We need to spend 2 dollar for washing and drying. We don't have place to dry cloths, so we always use the machines for both washing and drying.

$2.00 a machine so $4.00 in total? that doesn't seem so bad, but how often do you wash clothes? I want to say thanks for the luck wishes, tomorrow is when I'll go down to talk to the woman so I really hope that I get the job. It'll help my husband and I both a great deal, and I know will definitely help my husband stress less. I am glad the laundrymat is very close to your unit, I remember as a kid living in an apartment complex and the laundry mat was situated in the middle of the complex, we were about four apartments down from it if I remember correctly. Well thank you so much for your response! I will let everyone know when we get home if I will get the job, but I am hoping and praying we do.

We live in a 6-plex with a washer and dryer, it is 1.25 for a wash and the same for a dry. We are a family of 3, I do 3 loads a week. So it costs $30 a month. I do go to the laundromat to do the bedspreads and blankets, because they wont fit in our machines. When I do that, it is an additional $10 beacuse I usually put them in the ginormous washer that is $6 a load, then split it into 3 dryer loads & hope they dry before I run out of money! #:)

Oh my goodness! After I made this discussion and read some of the responses I remembered just how expensive it was to wash a load of clothes when I did so with friends. I think we ended up spending $30 to $40 a week on our laundry. We have a few options of what we're going to do about where to live, we might get a house, or we might get an apartment and we also might move in with friends. If we do end up getting an apartment by ourselves then it'll just be the two of us and I would hope we could get by with just $20.00 a month spent on the washing machines, but I also have a feeling that his parents will let us use there washer and dryer. I'm not below getting a wash basin and doing it that way, or one of the older washer things, I forget what they are called but it's the manual ones from WhirlPool I believe. I realize I am rambling, but wanted to add that I do remember when I was first living with friends our washer broke and so I had to wash some things in the bathroom sink.

Good luck with the job. The last time I was at a laundrymat was about 4 years ago when my washer was torn up. It cost around $1.75 per load and by the time the clothes dried..it was around $2 to dry....so around 3.75 a load. It might be ok for you and the hubby but if there were children's clothes involved it would be pretty expensive.

I am filling out the app for it now. I went by and talked to the manager who told me about the job req's and all, we pretty much got a feel of each other, what to expect etc. I'm going to turn it into today and pray that I get it as it would help a whole lot. Yeah, just my husband and I. I am sure it would be more expensive on days we're washing the sheets on our bed, especially the comforter but we could always ask to come home and wash those. The comforter I would definitely want to machine dry, no hanging that bad boy up as it'd take forever. We're looking at one bedroom places, maybe two tops (we have enough furniture for two bedrooms, a living room, a den and kitchen! I like this studio apartment in town, it'd be closer to (hopefully) my work too.. not walking distance closer unless I had to.

Congrats and I wish you get the job. I spent maybe 80$ a month but that was for me my son and my boyfriends laundry it is so much better now because we have our own washer and dryer now. Sometime though you can not trust a local laundrymat for light and white clothing because they do not throughly clean out their dryers so you have to be very careful of that. Good luck with everything and I wish you the best.

Thank you for the heads up about the dryers. I remember when my friends and I were using public washer and dryers we had no problem with the clothes looking dingy afterwards but we did have the surprise of coming in one night and the dryer being full of thongs and such that were not ours. We looked around and it didn't seem anyone was around to claim them, of course we didn't ask questions, we just stayed far away from that dryer.

I know they do but I thought they still charged to use the machine? I've forgotten it's been years since I've lived in a place with a laundry facility. My mom , dad, sister and I did when I was younger and all I can remember is my sister and I going down there to do the laundry, I think we had to put coins but I forget.
