Supercomputer called supercomputer because of it advanced technology that able to do the complex calculation that normal computer cannot not perform or too slow to perform. That is why it is called supercomputer. Just like why we call Superman as Superman. Can you fly like Superman? Can you lift a car like Superman? No right? That is why when other normal human or normal computer cannot perform better as the "Superman or Supercomputer" They are called Super of something...This is explanation in a lay man language, Hope you now can understand why a Supercomputer is called Supercomputer...

Supercomputers are usually made up of highly advanced computers that are then hooked up in parallel to allow for much faster and more sophisticated calcualtions.

What is the big deal about dual core processors - the great advantage is in the calculating potential - more processors can make a lot more calculations per second. And can you imagine a computer that uses several hundred dual core processors and it is equiped with several terabytes of RAM memory. A single supercomputer has the power of thousands of PCs working simultaneously!!!
