When I travel I have a little amount of money in my purse which I keep in my handbag. I keep the rest of my money along with my passport, airline tickets, travel insurance details and my debit card in my money belt. My money belt is hidden under my clothing. If I am traveling in a country which is known to be dangerous I hide my money in five different places. That way if I get mugged I won't lose all of my money. I like to get money from using my debit card and then I don't have to travel around with huge amounts of money. I even have a money belt that can be used under water. When I was snorkeling I had my money, passport, airline tickets and small camera with me in my under water money belt. In Guatemala when I was there a bus was held up by some criminals and they robed every traveler on the bus. That was why I put my money in the five different places in case that sort of thing would happen to me. In Romania two Canadian travelers had their money in the back pockets of their trousers. They got it stolen and came back to the hostel very upset.

That is really useful, moreover one if we have experienced such situations, we would be bit more alert, if we learn from mistakes. My hearty thanks for sharing those valuable experineces.

uh, guys - is it safe putting this on a public forum like this? You never know who may be listening. And then maybe I'm just being my usual paranoid self.

Crossing the border to Perú with my belt purse - I put my passport or identity card (in this case) plus money in my purse to cross the border to Perú in my last trip.
I have one of those purses you tie to your belt. I put everything there in several places. The passport goes nearer my belly and the change is at the outer part. As soon as I reach the hotel, I put my passport and part of my money in a safe box. I usually have some money enough for a taxi and then some ain one of my jean pockets, at the place where thereĀ“s no chance of anyone placing a hand without my noticing.

I too use debit cars, but in my country if I go to other rural areas ATM are much scarce and at times even that may not be working. In urban areas a debit card is much helpful
