In some religion,a person is said to be twice-born because after his birth, when he is about eight years of old,he undergoes a religious ceremony of purification. It is believed that it opens the door to inner kingdom of a person and enables him/her to see the light of God. Do you observe similar type of ceremony for a person in his/her childhood?

I know tht most religions have a ceremony like this. It applys to being reborn in the religion and means a great deal to those that participate.

Hi narayan, I dont know what religion you are mentioning for purification at the age of 8. We Parsi Zoroastrians do have a thread ceremony when the child is 7 years old. It is called a Navjote ceremony where the child is made to wear the sudhra and kusti. It is believed that till that time, the childs sins are forgiven. Once the child wears the sudhra and kusti, he becomes responsible for his own deeds. The Sudhra is a white muslin vest which protects us from the evil forces like a shield and the kusti is tied in three times round the waist to emphasise the teachings of Lord Zoroaster, i.e. Good thoughts, Good words and Good deeds on which the whole religion is based.
