Are you miserable when you wake up?

The past few mornings I've awakened feeling horrible. My head vaguely aches, my throat is almost sore and I feel like I've only slept about 5 minutes all night. Nothing has changed about my night time. I still wake up 2-3 times a night with leg cramps or to go to the bathroom, that is usual for me. My diet hasn't changed, nor have I exercised more or less. I feel okay after a couple of hours but the past few mornings are awful. Any idea what could be causing this? My nights are miserable enough without waking up feeling like crap.

Rarely. I take vitamins. In addition, I go to bed early and wake up in seven hours. Sounds like you are trying to catch a cold. Your resistance may be down. Try drinking 6 glasses of water early in the day. And, get more rest. If you do not feel better in a few days. See your doctor. Fell better soon. :)

You may be right. I haven't been ill in years but I have been working pretty hard lately with my online writing. The weather has changed drastically a few times, too. I'll try some vitamins (I usually don't take them). Thanks for the suggestions!

Ps. dragon54u, Try fresh juiced carrot juice. It is good for diabetes, and carrot juice gives you natural energy. Check with your doctor first. :)

I know when the weather changes, spring and fall for me, I get stuffy and don't feel too good as I do in the summer. I really think it's allergies to the dampness and mold outside. Once that passes though, it seems to go away through the winter until spring again. You might want to take some sinus medicine, it might help a little, especially if you find you have a runny nose. My nose always runs at this time of the year and the allergy pills help. When it drains so much, sometimes that causes a sore throat too because it's dripping into the back of your throat while you're sleeping..yukky, but true.

Quite likely it will help. I forgot. I take one of those daily when the weather is off. (Got a great bargain at Sam's club.)

I hope it works for you...it works for me, but it's possible you might be coming down with a cold too. The allergy pills should help that also. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm stuffy at night and when I get up in the morning my nose is stuffy then becomes a waterfall! I didn't think it might be allergies, I will take a generic Claritin before bed tonight and see if that helps, thanks!!

I find that when the different weather fronts are blowing through, I do feel miserable. Almost headache, tired, achy. Coffee usually helps a lot. I take magnesium supplements and that helps with the leg cramps. Hubby actually eats two bananas a day for his leg cramps.

I usually look forward to my morning coffee but the past couple of days I haven't wanted any. We have had some drastic weather changes lately so I'm going to take an allergy pill tonight, generic Claritin. I think that might help but I didn't think about it till someone mentioned it!

i know what you mean. i get up like that 9 days out of 10. i wonder if it could be the weather changing making your sinuses act up. or you could just have something new going on and need it checked by your doctor. please let us know what you find out.

We've had weird weather changes recently, I'll bet that's it. I just didn't think of it. But my dogs haven't slept with me for about 2 weeks, I wonder what that reason is?

now that you mention it, coco has been getting off onto the floor at night also and stretching out like she didnt have enough room when little girl she is, has whole side of the bed. but shes also been sneezing a bit. im still wondering if it could be her allergies also.

I know I need a new mattress (but they cost so much!!), maybe you also need one! The weather is cooling off and I'm feeling more energetic so maybe I'll see if I can spend some more time on my exercise bike. I'm sure that will help and if it doesn't, at least I'll be healthier!

hi dragon.... at first i want to ask you how many hours you sleep... for me 6 hours is enough and if i increase or decrease the time then i feel the same... so u should maintain a regular routine for a sleep and before a sleep u should take a light bath.. if not possible, then wash your feet from knees... i think it will help you a lot. have a nice day.

I don't get good sleep. I'm in bed a total of about 8 hours but it takes about 2 hours to get to sleep (I've checked the clock) and I wake up many times during the night due to pain in my joints. I probably sleep a total about 4-5 hours each night. Washing my feet sounds very relaxing and pleasant. I will try it, thanks!!

I, too, usually wake up feeling bad. Should I tell my husband, he will say that I slept too hard. I told him that there is no such thing as sleeping too hard. I can blame my dry mouth and sore throat on the fact that I snore. The fact that I ache all over, especially my back, is the result of the friend of practically all those over 65 - osteoarthritis. Your statement that you wake up with a headache made me wonder if you could have developed allergies.

I do have allergies but they usually don't bother me. What usually bothers me is my scoliosis, constant back pain. The headache is new. This morning I didn't feel so bad, which is a good sign, but I didn't feel nearly as good as I usually do. Arthritis is so very painful, I hope yours doesn't get much worse but it's something we older people have to deal with.

Sometimes I feel miserable sometimes I feel great when waking up. It depends on the situation. If I slept well and have no problems or worries to be faced, I usually wake up refreshed, relaxed and happy. If I do have problems and I did not sleep very well , I often wake up grump and depressed, sometimes I feel like I do not want to wake at all..

I certainly didn't want to wake up this morning! What a restless night, I don't think I slept more than a couple hours total. But I'm determined to have a good day--after a week of 90+ degrees, we finally have a day in the 70's!

Do you know where you leg cramps are coming from? Maybe you have Restless Leg Syndrome? I think it helps if you can exercise everyday or try to do some stretches before you sleep.

I'm not able to exercise much due to my scoliosis--curved spine. And my arthritis. But I do have a stationary bike that I should be on more often. I'll do some of that tonight a couple hours before bed and see if it makes a difference, thanks!

My problem is that once I wake up it's very hard to get back to sleep no matter how tired I am. You should drink some ice water, it's a real waker-upper!

I am neber miserable when I wake up unless I feel a cold is coming on. I am usually a very happy spirited person in the morning. there is enough in life to drag us down without waking to a world where we are miserable.

That is my attitude. Usually, no matter how I feel in the morning I tell myself it's going to be a wonderful day but lately that isn't working very well. Keep that upbeat attitude!

That's a good suggestion. I'll try it tonight! This morning wasn't as bad as the last two but still not normal. Thinking about the hot milk makes me want to go back to bed!

sometimes it's hard for me to wake up. i'll set the alarm but i'll just snooze it/turn it off. and go back to sleep. LOL. it seems really hard to keep my eyes open in the morning when i wake up.. but nothing serious. i can also sleep well at night without interruption... i think you should see a doctor, because your cramps, sore throat, etc could be a sign of a health condition. or maybe it's just a sign of fatigue, or a normal sign of ageing. you could try taking multivitamins fit for your age. but i still think you should see a doctor, just to make sure. i wish you well. ~p

You are blessed! I get up several times a night, sometimes from a bad dream but usually from some part of my body hurting. I remind myself that I have my own bed, my own house. It takes awhile to get back to sleep, I've never slept well. In the morning I feel as you do, it's a blessing to see a wonderful new day full of opportunity!

That's terrible. If I wake up feeling bad, its a good sign I'm going to feel worse later. Way my chest is feeling now, I suspect tomorrow is going to be bad.

I do get up in the middle of the night it's not from leg cramps tho it's just happens I think maybe that your body is telling you that you aren't getting enough sleep I know if I wake up more in the night I haven't had enough or could be the opposite you are getting too much....

I don't think it's too much sleep. I have a horrid time getting to sleep, I can lay there for hours. When I do sleep I wake up after about 6 hours so I think that's all I need. I wake up several times a night with leg cramps, joint pain and such. So maybe I'm not getting enough true rest. This is new, though.

Dragon- I know you say your diet has not changed but perhaps you need to keep a journal to see if it has or has not. It is easy for something small to sneak itself into our diets that cause issues and we miss it. You may also be not drinking enough water. Dehydration has the very symptons you describe as well, so you may want to evaluate your intake. If you are waking that many times a night and having cramps I'd check with your doctor. There are a few things that could be going on that could prove serious. Namaste-Anora

Thanks Anora, I do have to have a checkup--haven't had one for years. And at 56, I probably should be a bit more proactive about it.

Hello Dragon. Have you thought about trying a new mattress? It's surprising how much difference that can make. Perhaps a dip in temperature has caused you to need a pee during the night. I'm usually quite happy in the mornings, I take a while to get to sleep but nothing wakes me up when I'm asleep. I'm sometimes a bit grumpy when the weather is bad bu I'm mostly quite chirpy when I get up

I'm quite sure I do need a new mattress but we're talking a few hundred dollars--although I have a small income, I haven't worked since I lost my job two years ago. So a new mattress is not an option! I've tried sleeping in the guest room that my mom put a sleep number bed that sleeps really great but I'm not comfortable there. So I guess it's my own fault!

Im sorry you feel like that and I hope you feel better. Maybe you need vitamins before going to bed or you are sleep with too much clothing or sheets over you. I would suggest you should explain this to your doctor to better understand what is going on. Also if it will help keep water on the side of your bed earlier in the evening put it in the freezer and throughout the night when you wake up have some it will probably make you go to the bathroom but it will also help with the cramps. Also for more advice visit www.webmd.com and see what information you could find there. I really hope this helps. take care.

I do keep water by my bed, I'm a very enthusiastic water drinker! Thanks for the advice. I will probably have to go find a doctor, I haven't been to one for years.
