God did not create Universe: Hawking

In his latest work, Hawking cites the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting a star outside our own Solar System as a reason as to why there is no God. I guess according to his thinking God could not make two planets? So, an Almighty God does not exist because another planet exists outside of our solar system. What do you think?

Hawking did not state that there is no god. He did state that we now know that the origin of the universe can be explained well enough by physical causes that a supernatural explanation is not required. If no god or gods are required why postulate an unneeded one?

His comment regarding planets outside of the universe was in reference to the concept of the so called "Goldilocks zone" that explains the creation by fact that all conditions on earth favors intelligent life. If there are other solar systems, other planets with life than the need for a creator becomes less certain. He maintains that wherever intelligent life evolves they would regard the conditions that existed as favoring their evolution.

The title of the article was "God did not create Universe: Hawking" No matter how brilliant he may be that is just a presumptuous opinion. He has no facts to back up that opinion. If he wants to believe that that is his choice. And it is my choice to challenge that. Remember the story of David and Goliath?

If we are talking logic, then his is flawed. There are already planets in our own solar system and each one is different from all the others. They all move in measured precision. So the discovery of one or millions of planets just shows the amazing abilities of God. The discovery of other planets and even other life forms cannot used as a sensible argument that God did not create the universe.

God did not just created earth, He created the whole universe. Based from the Big Bang Theory, the universe was created from a powerful explosion which I think came from God. So I believe that the existence of another planet outside our solar system is still the work of God.

I don't know why someone would think that God is incapable of creating planets outside of our solar system? I agree with you, God can do whatever He wants and there are no limits to his creative works. He has the power to do anything.

He's not accounting for my religion very well. Not everyone, but some believe, in my religion that Earth is a school house planet. We learn the various things we need to learn to evolve to a higher being. We negociate with God as to what that higher being will do if we've learned what we need to. We get reincarnated several times until we reach the higher evolutionary goal that we set for ourselves. Some wish to be guardian angels to watch over their family, some had terrible families and wish to help other families, etc. One of the alledged choices that we can work up to is to be the one who helps with the creation of other beings on another planet and/or to assist with those people. So as some people graduate with enough spiritual ability to assist another planet, they go there and help out. Those are planets inhabited by not necissarily people. We started off here with dinosaurs supposedly. Not everyone believes the same in my religion, but most do believe that we have many choices after we die and that various methods of assisting others is possible. Some thing or want to just be part of the life forces of energy surrounding the Earth and watching over it. There are as many ideas on what we could do next as there are people. Interesting discussion.

Hello my friend formidexo Ji, Well, I think Hawking can never me to go his way, as i have been thinking by living under one God, even there are more than two planets, it is finally all made by GOD and no body else as Hawking himself is a creation of Almighty. Further it is very much controversial subject. It hits on someone's faith. If hawkings thinks taht way, he is very much at his full liberty to do so, but he can not make me to believe in his way. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hawkings' reasoning is not to be understood in the manner you are suggesting. One can either accept the theory of creator or no creator but natural occurence. Those who opt to believe in God will continue to attribute every natural phenomena to God. Those who look through analytical mind explain things in a different manner. Can any explorer say there is only one solar system or only one star outside our solar system. We have not got the knowhow to reach that far where there can be several solar systems or similar planets like ours. After all we are humans on this planet earth and our intellect is limited to what we discovered. God is also created by us humans of this planet, isn't it?

Evolution of humans as chronicled shows that humans, though evolving from animals, developed the intelligence to think things over. When their intelligence failed to unfathom some occurrences they attributed to a supernatural power. Over ages the supernatural power transformed into God. Therefore, I can only say god is created by man. I do not contest with those that believe God existed. The question that how natural laws existed can also be put about god. If god created the multiverse as the believers say why are there so many gods and so many religions? Hawking is an eminent scientist and in spite of his physical suffering and limitations, used his mental prowess to such an extent that all of us normal persons are unwilling to understand his explanations purely due to our dogmatic beliefs. As somebody said the controversy shall remain as long as the true power behind the occurrences in nature is identified. Further, even when the scientists do bring out the identity of such power, it would be blasphemy for the staunch believers in god.

Sorry if I implied something that may not have been what Mr. Hawking indented to say and if I misunderstood and made a wrong presumption. Does Mr Hawking believe in God? Did we create God or did God create us? We can believe what we want but let us be fair and reasonable when we make bold statements like Mr. Hawking did.

In my spiritual belief, if there is another planet outside of our solar system, then it is also God's creation. There is NO limit to the what the Almighty's wants to do, so in my opinion, Hawking's theory is definitely out.

Hello form ans welcome to myLot. Even if Hawking is right with his theory about physics and the creation of Every thing had to be in place for the universe to happen and for me it is still compelling to believe that God started it all. He had to put all the component in place. Since he is omnipotent He could and did do it as the Bible states all in one week.

The Bible does not give much details about how God went about the creation, just that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. How long ago that was, is not stated. Did He do it by a big bang, it does not state. But the universe and all the life forms on earth are just incredible. And to not thank and appreciate and marvel at God's ability and to take away the glory that should go to him is just inexcusable. I am forced to point that out!

Actually, the news reports him as having rejected the idea of God being INVOLVED in the universe's CREATION, not that he doesn't believes God exists. I'm personally disappointed in his view, but it doesn't surprise me at all for him to say so. Many scientists hold similar opinions, yet it doesn't mean these views are facts. It simply affirms to me that men are limited in a lot of ways and not infallible, even when gifted with brilliant scientific minds. Just because he knows a lot about physics doesn't mean he knows/understands everything. If it were so, he would be omniscient, like God.

You need not feel threatened nor offended by it. That's between him and God. Like I said earlier, he isn't the only one in the world who views creation this way. Atheists don't even believe God exists. But his fame, I guess, makes his comment prominent. Whether he thinks he can "get away with" it or not is inconsequential to me. I don't believe this was even a concern on his mind when he made the statement. Each one of us will have to account for what we do and say one day, and there's still time for him to refute his stance, should he wish.

But with that statement he is challenging God and ascribing the credit that should go to God to something else. Does he actually think that he can do that and get away with it?

Dear friend, Once earth was known to be flat, then round, then moon was rounding earth, sun was rounding earth. But later the real truth comes what was all these are about. I hope when time comes God himself will show what is what.

I think the day won't be too far when God will make us all aware of his existence and that earth belongs to Him. Bad tenants of this earth, that have stubbornly and presumptuously and arrogantly looked away from all the evidence that we have of his existence will have to answer for their deliberately choosing to believe lies instead of the truth.

It amazes me that scientist can make discoveries after discoveries and they still refuse to see that the only thing that makes sense in all these discoveries is God. There are laws in all of creation, so if there are laws there has to be a law giver. Many scientist have brilliant minds, but some of them have very closed minds also.

God is much bigger than people realize. Think the universe is big. There are an infinite number of universes we don't even know about. Sure Mr Hawking has some fame but that doesn't mean he is right about everything. Some of his comments like we need to get off this planet before it's too late or aliens will destroy us if they discover us show the the man has issues he needs to deal with. Many things can cloud a person's view. We show this by what we give the world. Look closely at the people around you. What do they give the world?? Discover the real truth. All the secrets of the universe are all around us for those with the wisdom to see. Can you see????

I'm with you we have much to discover about God. And He wants to keep studying his creative works as they reveal something about his personality. He could have made things easier for us but He knows that we need challenges and has filled the universe with them so that when eternity is given us we have plenty of interests.

But what caused the blast? Where did whatever blasted come from/ How could a blast cause such a huge universe? Where did all the intelligence manifest in the universe come from? How could a blast cause amazing order and precision without intelligence?

in my country steve would be sacrificed oh yes very good theres no way theres not a god no way at all! of course theres a god, stephen doesnt know anything, thats why he's considered one of the dumbest people in the world! I'm going to read a five sentence summary of what he said and then change my opinion of him completely and throw out a poorly thought out argument against him!

What he said doesn't make any sense and he should apologize if what was reported is what he actually said. People should think for themselves and reach their own conclusions. But the world is becoming more and more anti God.
