So tonight was the night that my Girl Scout Brownie troop earned their Make it Eat it Try It. (Cooking with 7 year olds in an interesting taste) We had the girls cook their favorite dish at home with their parents since we didn't have a kitchen at the church where we meet. We had a great variety of food. Cookies, tatertot casserole, tacos, and much more. The food was definately centered around second graders! We made the ziploc baggie ice cream. (I posted about it a few weeks ago) It turned out good and the girls had a lot of fun. What do you guys think about doing a pot luck with a group of 7 year olds!

Sounds like a great idea to me, they got to cook with their families and then they all got to experience what each other made. I personally love pot lucks it is always nice to taste dishes that other people have made and to get a really nice variety of foods. I think it was probably a really great experience for all the girls. My wife used to be a girl Scout Leader. They did their cooking badge at our house.

It was a lot of fun! Glad to know that your wife used to be a leader, I am always looking for advice from other leaders, I am new to this, and actually found some of my ideas on the internet. Next month we are doing the Dancersize badge! Will be looking for those ideas too. Thanks for the response!

Sounds like you guys had a great time..My granddaughter is 7 and she loves to cook..She also loves to watch food network..I think letting kids help cook makes them better eaters...My grand kids will eat anything from kid favorites like mac n cheese to sushi...Even the 3 year old love to help cook...

When I ran a summer camp, I did things like coconut balls and stuff, on a table in a church hall. Sometimes I did muffins, buying ready made cup cakes and covering them with nutella. Get creative, and then get them to hep with cleaning.
That way they learn all the basic skills. :)
