I think truth can really set someone free but in case it is related to you. Here the example you provided"The sun is Hot" doesn't have any relation with me so it does not "free me". Truth makes you free if it is related to you, let us take a example. Imagine you are hiding your poor exam results from your parents, you will be in tension all that time, but if you tell the truth to your parents no matter what happens next at lest you will be free.

Hi paopaolar, In life only those who show their true character are free. Free from worry to be misjudge because you know you have nothing to hide. Those who pretend lived in misery despite of all the things that they achieved they still remain empty within. That is why the truth will really set you free.
Nice post :D

If you were under the delusion that the sun is cold, wouldn't you then be more free if you now believe the sun is hot? It would explain the hot sunny summer days and the mystery is solved. You can spend your life knowing that the more the sun's angle is perpendicular to you, the hotter it will be (barring any cold weather fronts and the like of course) instead of in ignorance as to the mystery of the hot weather.
I knew a guy who thought the phases of the moon was due to the earth's shadow being on it. I taught him about how the phases work and showed him a lunar eclipse that IS the earth's shadow on the moon. Is he now more free than before with the false knowledge?
I suppose it depends on what you mean by "free."

The following is the whole discourse from where the quote comes and can be found in John 8:31-36:
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE." They answered Him, "We are Abraham descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free'?" Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave to sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
Obedience to Jesus, who is the way (to God), the truth (of God), and the life, is what makes us free because Satan can no longer get us to do those things we know are wrong.

If it is logical, then yes, the truth does set us free. Anything that would put our hearts and minds and souls at ease are definitely true. If your statement declares otherwise then you would question it. Find proof or prove it yourself. But until then, you are BOUND to get answers. You will be in uncertain of things without hard evidence. Once you are sure and the truth presented itself then you are free.

I am reminded of the violation of one's nature ...
Perhaps for instance when an entrusted person such as a government official decides to put, into his personal bank account, money that is supposed to be for his countrymen, he , in the final analysis, is not free. Though common thinkers may not agree. "It's a jackpot" they would say.
There is, however, a subconcious conflict in his mind that is caused by a violation of man's nature - to give and receive. Guilt in one's mind manifests as various negatives: physiological diseaes is common. The body's mind (non-conscious part) can not lie ... if a man thinks he has gotten away with untruthfulness, observe all the other people who have done the same. Something wrong is always being caused by being untruthful. So it seems, sticking to the truth will keep us free.
What do you think?
