Fate - real or illusion

Do you believe in fate? Or was it just a few things that just happened in order? Why do you believe this. (I would love to hear arguments for and against!)

No I don't believe that our lives are predestined and I refuse to accept that there is a set time we will die. Because if that were true all my efforts would be null and void.
