What advice will you give to someone who's about to end his life?

I thought of posting this question after I have talked to somebody who's about to take his life because of unbearable pressures and disappointments...

Talk with the person. Demonstrate you understand what the person is going through. Do not judge the person, not for his/her life-ending decision. Do not threaten to call the police, family etc. Just have a good talk and try to show the person that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"Trying to show that there is light at the end of the tunnel" is the hardest part of the comment. It's easy to emphatize, but it's hard to let him feel that you are sincere. It takes much to earn his trust.
