What do I think? I dunno, laglen, because this discussion is little more than a sarcastic rant about what exactly?

Now, laglen, you know that going to Camp David doesn't count as a vacation!

I thought "your side" was sick of the President giving speeches...lol! He really can't win, can he?
Regarding all the negative press President Obama has been getting about "vacations", can't we give it a rest or at least try to put it into perspective a bit? Going a few miles to Camp David for a holiday weekend isn't a "vacation", not for this President anymore than it was for past Presidents. Even though they went further I felt the same way about President Reagan's trips to the "Western White House" in California and and President Bush's weekend getaways to his Crawford ranch. The "President of the UNITED STATES" can be from any of our 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii which are quite far from Washington D.C. It's certainly conceivable that, like Reagan's California, Bush's Texas and Obama's Chicago a President from our states that aren't part of the mainland 48 will want to go "home" for a long weekend now and then and why shouldn't he or she be able to do that without being accused of taking "too many vacations"?
I think most of us who work or have worked at demanding jobs know that if one doesn't get some time away from the office or whatever the "workplace" is now and then for some "down time", one will soon get burned out. Our Presidents - ALL ofour Presidents, past, present and future - are human beings so they're no different in that way from the rest of us. We no longer live in the days of the Pony Express or even depend on the postal service or overnight delivery; no matter where the President is in the world he or she will be able to do pretty much anything he or she could do from the Oval Office. A President's vacations aren't really vacations like the rest of us take, if we're fortunate enough to be able to take them. As for the cost, let's face it we pay for the President and his family's security all the time, no matter where they are. I for one have NO problem with that and never have. Our Presidents also get a salary, another thing I have no problem with, and they and their families usually have some of their own money besides their salary. That's what they generally use for their actual vacation expenses. Shouldn't ALL Americans have the right to spend their money however they wish?

I am not sure what "my side" is, or who I am to be grouped in with. However, I would like to see some empathy and some inspiration from my leader. Not more spending. Every time he does get in front of a mike it is to either raise taxes (healthcare, cap and trade) or spend more money (stimulus, bail out, etc).
Instead of hearing anything of substance, I hear how it is Bush's fault or the Republicans fault.
He was voted in for "hope and change". How is it hope or change if he is "passing the buck" all of the time?
This may be what you wanted, but it is not for me.

Well, I do agree with you on the issue of them taking vacations but when you ask shouldn't we be able to spend our money the way we want it brings to mind that the $400,000 per year they get as a salary comes from the taxes that each citizen pays, I just don't see how any president has the right to earn that much at the taxpayers expense. Sure, let em go on vacation, I get that, but gimme them taxes I paid back.

Another vacation? Although I think the following remark gives a good reason for the many vacation days he takes:
Good thing he is taking yet another of his many, many vacations. This country can't afford for him to work & spend.

Laglen, by sparing you a moment would it help an unemployed family pay for a meal? There is only so much a president can do, and republicans want to make sure that he does even less so they can win in 2012 (please explain to me how that will help the country, or the currently unemployed?). If you want to be upset about the unemployment numbers, than maybe you should look at the people that employ Americans. American corporations that have $2 TRILLION dollars sitting around doing NOTHING!!!! When will the American people start to question their actions, or lack there of?
