Mothers abandoning children?

I have a friend who is currently working at Hospice care facilities. My friend is now assigned to the pediatric ward. They are the ones taking care of those kids in the pediatric ward, from bathing to changing diapers. I really feel sorry for the kids for not being able to know their biological parents. But on the good side, they were given the chance to live and be taken cared of in that facility. What can you say about this issue? Do you know of mothers or parents giving up their child on a facility?

Speaking as a parent, I know that it would be impossible for me to be able to abandon my child to a Hospice care facility if I knew that they were in a terminal state. I know that it would be difficult to watch my child suffer and eventually pass away. However, I feel like going forward in my life I would be able to find a certain bit of comfort in the fact that I was able to have that time with my child near the end of their life.
