The Joys of gmail

I don't know how many of you are aware, but gmail has a new feature! You can now call any telephone from your gmail account. I think this is amazing. US and Canada calls are free and foreign calls have minimal fees. All you need is a microphone and speakers on your computer (laptops with builtin webcams are ideal) and you can install a plugin from google and you're on your way to making free calls to any phone in the US and Canada! I, for one, think this is amazing and am loving every minute of it. Has anyone else out there tried this new feature? What do you think of it and have you had any problems with it so far?

I'll check it out, thanks for the heads up. I'm using Skype now, it's only $2.99 a month with unlimited calling in the US. All of my kids are long distance for me to call so Skype is ideal for me. But I'll check into gmail, anything to go cheaper right? Thanks.

Right. I am always looking for ways to cut costs. I haven't had long distance on my phone for several months now. I've been using a Costco calling card but even that averages around 7cents per minute and more to Canada. I have a girlfriend in Whitehorse that I like to keep in touch with the phone. Now I can call her anytime for free. I am thrilled.

I suspect it is only available to the US and Canada at present but will probably become available elsewhere with time. I love it!

I have also heard of this new feature of Gmail. Unfortunately, it is not available for me until now. It seems that it is a free call service based VoIP technology. In the future, I hope I can use it in my country because it will allow us to keep in touch with others freely. Yes, it is a good alertnative of mobile phones.

I'm sorry to hear that. I thought it might be so since the free calls are to US and Canada only.
