I read in the dark all the time. Like you, as long as I can see the letters I'm good. I've heard people say that it's bad for the eyes, but I've yet to see any evidence that it really is.
I try to get enough light so that I'm not squinting at the text all the time. Usually I read by my lamp on my nightstand, and that's always enough light for me.

Actually I'm not able to read with little light on. Because even if I begin reading with little light after a while my eyes gets worse and I can't concentrate on what I read and it's also bad for the eyes. I have myopia and astigmatism. I should take care of my eyes. Anyway the time when I most love reading is nights when the sun is not around.

I like reading, but I like my eyes too, so I try to read always with enough light
If you force your eyes too much they will end up suffering, and your eyesight might be damaged, so it's better to take good care of them while you do what you like in my opinion

No I don't. I always see to it that I read with right ventilation cause I have an eye condition and poor lights would make it worst!

It all depends on what book i am reading. if its some study materials or general magazines its good to read on well lighted room but if its some romantic or some dramatic novels its better to read on dim room..

Nah, I'd rather not. Study shows low light reading slowly weakens your eye sight. And I am a serious no-no for spectacles. I'd suggest you check an eye specialist and then think of reading or writing in dim light.

Yeah, I can read even from candle light during power interruption so as my text in an off light but don't practice it because your mom is correct its not good to our eyes. We always care and protect our eyes because it is the window of our soul. Its easy to read in the dark but very hard to walk in the dark.

Hi chiyosan!.
I sleep with light on so you can say I am reading with bright light so its won't hurt my eyes. I hear reading in the dark can damage your eyes and makes you have to wearing a glasses to get your eyes to its normal function.
I love to reads and I usually reads a book as my lullaby before sleep and all my family member know this habit.

Yes, I often find myself reading in the dark with very minimal light on. I was told before by my friends and my husband that I should avoid doing that because it has some negative effects to my eyes. I try to follow their advice but sometimes when I see a book or magazine, I just have to read it, whenever, wherever, I am.

You should read with the light on. Clear bright light. So that your eyes don't strain. I tried it under dim light and after 1 hour my head hurts and my eyes are tired. it is also good to prevent eye diseases... so keep your eyes healthy!
your mom was right after all. moms really knows best.

I feel my eyes very comfortable if I read with little light on. I like to read with enough light for the protection of my eyes. I agree with your mom that it is not good for the eyes with little light on. Also when my son and wife use the computer in the room, I have them turn on the light as our bedroom is not bright enough. Take care, chiyosan.

Hi chiyosan!
Sometimes I do read in the dark with little light on. I have always been warned about this practice. But I think I am really that stubborn. As long as I think I am still comfortable and that my eyes are not yet "complaining", I just go on and read in the dark with little light on.

i have a small reading light here in my recliner. i use it when i don't want to put the big lights on. it sure saves some electricity. if i really can't read then the big lights go on. those little reading lights are just great.

Hi,
I definitely need the light on for my reading.
I have been wearing glasses since my primary school and not to
make my eyes condition get worst, I avoid reading in the dark ,
eat more vitamin to improve my eye sight and have enought rest
everyday.
It is not good to read in a dark. Only when there is a blackout, then
I have to on the emergency light, but I also avoid reading with emergency
light,it is not that bright and not good for my eyes.

Hi chiyosan,
Yes I always do it. Since I love to read while lying in my bed, I always turn on my mini light so that when I am sleepy, I will never have to stand up just to turn off my main light. And take note, I have a poor sight. Lol!
