If a Lotter receives a lot of responses then hats off to them
I know that there are several that have been here for a long time that I admire. Each time they start a topic it is filled with quality, be it a serious or a fun topic.
If they are to be considered popular because their discussions receive a lot of activity then I guess we should all be looking at how they do it - then we could all become popular too

Keshia-
At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what anyone thinks of you as a person, it is what you think of yourself. If you are happy with your contributions for the day on Mylot then that is all that should matter.
I do understand that it may seem a bit sad if people are not visiting all of your thread, but as my husband once said "I'd rather have a few intelligent discussions, than a lot of fluff discussions". I do not have a lot of visits to my threads, but those who do respond offer up a great deal in the area of rich discussion. I much prefer that than the quick quips that loot the "popular" or "hot" discussions.
And I'd much rather have friends around that respect me, than those that are there to just give lip service or use me. That's personally what I think about "popularity". Those that we see with "fans" are not always friends with all of them, nor are they always happy people. As the old saying goes, "The grass is always greener on the other side".

There are so many mylotters that I only recognize a few ones. Hiccup, diana, mike ( where the heck are you, matey?!), hardworkinggurl, and a hand or two more. But don't worry, I have no clue whether I am well known or not. Honestly, I don't mind. As long as I am able to learn new things and help without getting too much resistance, it's fine.

Yeah man. I have seen people here with like more than 5000 posts. They must not have a job and be at home all day because that would take a lot of work. In Asian Countries, however, being on myLot could actually earn you a living.

@punjab Or it could be that they're been with myLot for a long time and their rating has just accumulated ;) I've been here around two months and will log in every now and then and already I am over a rating of 500.

Some people with more than 5000 posts are very lucky
Not only do they have a full time offline job but they are also allowed to access myLot while they are at work

I don't think who I'm referring to is all that important. I was just stating an opinion.
and you have a good one!

I have been on here for a few years. When I first started, it was an obsession. Then there was a period where there were some flame wars and I just wanted to keep my head down and out of the way. A ton of my friends disappeared during that period. Either by choice or by getting banned for misconduct during the Great Flame War. Then I discovered Facebook and left MyLot for a while. Plus, I had run out of things to say. The novelty of FB has worn off. I am back and trying to visit here every day. I am also trying to write myself notes during the day if I think of a good discussion to start. Half the time someone else has already started one similar. Anyway, I had been gone so long I only recognize a handful of people or so. Time to make some new friends!

It was several years ago. There were pages and pages of personal attacks and people taking sides against one another. If you were friends with "A", you couldn't be friends with "B" and so forth. Many users lost their accounts for bad behaviour. A lot of people just left rather than deal with the silliness.

I think some Mylot memebers come up with really good discussions and that is why they are popular! I think some of these people have tons of friends who are interested in their topics and that is why they get so many responese! I get envious sometimes but I keep on trying to improve discussions!

I am wondering what decides whether a Lotter is more popular than another - and who cares anyway?

I like that!!!: this discussion was started to make money and nothing else.
At least the girl is not hiding her true intentions I also want to get rich. I keep think if I shoud or shouldn´t answer those mails from Nigeria where they say someone has left me a fortune!

Hello Keshia,
I believe Popularity is not the thing for me, not even cool.I learned a lesson from the others that if you're popular with friends, so too with enemies. having lots and lots of post doesn't make a person popular, it's his/her discussion is.
But i had to admit, i do envy some of my friends number of post. i was obsessed about it last year, when i reached this level, i just got tired.being popular is when you get your topics to be in the "TOP" or "HOT" discussions.
Besides, I am just a mylotter. no big deal.
Have a great day to you.

Hi K,
You will never get everyone to like you. The main thing is to be true to yourself and continue doing your best to move up in rank. From the looks of all the response you received on this discussion, you are on your way.
Keep up the good work.

Well, I think so because I missed both Mike and Diana when they were not available and now I find that many others also missed them. It means that both are loved by everybody and popular too. There are other popular members also. But since I am new here I am not wholly acquainted with them.

Popularity is achieved by being very active in the site. Staying active in making discussions and posting responses on other discussions will help you make friends and will definitely increase your visibility in this program. The more visible you are, the more chances your discussions are being read and responded at. This will also help you increase the traffic your discussions are getting , as well as mylot, thus more rewards for you.

Those who are popular here do put in a lot of hard work. If you look at their activity it shows. Also just accepting 'friends' is not enough. One needs to make them a part of one's activity too. They could be exchanging PMs on a regular basis and trying to get to know their 'friends'. Everything hinges round your 'friends'. If you are not active in this field you cannot be popular. Having said this many may not be interested in wanting to be popular. Each of the users here have their own reason to be here and they would certainly try to achieve justify that.

...it's good to have a long responses but it is better to have a long and good responses...when we respond to one topic, we share our thoughts and opinion with regards to such topic....it doesn't matter if we have a lengthy response or not as long as we were able to deliver clearly what we want other people to know..
