I like this discussion.
Just yesterday when I was on Skype, a guy joined the group and practically took over the conversations. He told us how his English is very good despite he is from a non-English native speaker country. He told us he listened to CNN everyday and that he understands all the American accents. But when a friend did webcam chat with him he did not say anything he just wrote messages, saying that he was not in speaking mode.
Well, if he is that good in English, his writing left anything to be desired as it was apparent he needs lot of improvements.

Achilles! You have given the answer in your question itself. It is because people are stupid and are too drunk with themselves . Ignorance is bliss and here lack of knowledge makes a person unaware of the fact that he/she knows not much
An intelligent person would definitely have doubts because he feels more and more inadequate as he reads more and more and in the course of reading realises thta what he/she knows is a miniscule, an insignificant portion not worth mentioning.
This is why we have the saying 'empty vessels make much noise' and that 'a little learning is a dangerous thing'-it would give unwanted confidence and make a person even more stupid than what he is.

Kalave on the other hand it should be other way around. The stupid should lack confidence out of ignorance, and the knowledgeable ought to be confident because he is aware of the consequences of his action. Shakespeare said, " Fools rush in where angels fear to tread." Fools rush in because they do not know the consequences and wise do not rush because they know the consequences. Thanks for the response. The discussion I had posted just for fun.

There is a quote "Ignorance is bliss". If they forget all their mistakes and never learn from anything they have nothing to fear.

Well sometimes it takes a smart person to really see what is wrong with the world. I wouldn't call people who have a lot of confidence, stupid, but rather optimistic and quite naive. They see the world through the rose tinted glasses and their world view is skewed towards the positive. Of course, it is not a good idea to have a world view completely skewed through the negative.
Still we want to focus on the positives in life, while also not ignoring the negatives. Those doubts will actually give us reason to continue to move forward in life. Without doubts, we might not be able to see what is wrong and keep that in mind. Otherwise, we might get a nasty shock if something should go wrong and if I've learned anything in life, anything can go wrong.

I feel stupid people are confident, because they feel that their stupidity is logical. And they are damn correct. This may be the probable reason. And about the the normal people who are not stupid they are confident when they are sure and correct, but they are not not confident when they are in doubt that they might be wrong.

I know someone like that! He thinks he knows the answer to everything, behind his back we call him "DR." He always has an answer but some of them are so WRONG but HE KNOWS he is right!!!!! I just try to not say anything around him.
I think us intelligent ones are the ones who know to keep their mouth shut and listen first, think next and speak last!!

The answer to your question is exactly opposite of what you think it is. I think that folks who do not have a good education tend to cover their "insecurity" with bravado and arrogance. A lot of the time they come across as a Know it all. They jump in with a comment or plan without thinking it through because they want praise and attention....insecurity complex.
Folks with the benefits of a better education are a little more secure and can deal with sitting still and listening and waiting to put forth their opinion. They are more secure in their own knowledge and abilities.
Of course there are exceptions to every rule. I know a fellow with 3 PHDs, a brilliant man that is unbelievably insecure and a total pain. He is horribly arrogant and a braggart, a total bore, but so full of knowledge and willing to share that you have to overlook all of that.LOL

Hi Achilles,
Your posts make me think hard! Lol. Now for the question you asked I would rather say that stupid people are not full of confidence but they are not aware of the consequence. And neither they have any intension of knowing it ever.
For some Ignorance truly is a bliss. The knowledgeable ones have the capacity to ask and rationalize, to question. They aren't rigid with there thoughts, ethos and beliefs. They dare to think away and apart from the conventional thoughts. I don't think they would necessarily be doubtful but yes they might be skeptical before accepting a fact.
Stupidity could be extremely humorous and that is something worth a spectacle.

I wise man once told me.
"The more you learn, the less you know".
The more you explore and venture about things the more you realize that there is so much more that what it seems. Therefore it extends your circle of knowledge. In this regard, you will soon realize and be doubtful.
As well all know Ignorance is bliss. If one is lacking in brain cells that all they know is concentrated or locked in a small box. Since its a really small box, they tend to be over themselves and gain confidence.
These people are often too self centered that they do not notice that they have to learn a lot but instead tend to think that the world revolves around them, rather than them as only a spec of sand in a beach called our existence.

I don't think I'll take part in this discussion. I lack the confidence.

I don't think so.I think only a part of people said in that way.On the one hand,Maybe stupid people want people pay more attention to theirs,so they are full of confidence to do something in surface, but it isn't a bad thing to them.If they work hard, maybe they still can do something well.If they are just to boast,it only means they are ignorant. So we shouldn't deny theirs confidence completely. On the other hand, smart people were lenrned more knowledge, when they begin to do something that they were very careful on it.

because people are taught by their parents that they can be whatever they want, therefore, the big confidence
I admit,I'm stupid, but I think people with more confidence than they need, are pretty much annoying:)
For example, all the teenage girls now, think they're so pretty, but actually 70 percent of them look like kids of godzilla and the hulk :)

I believe intelligent people are always doubting simply because they're thinkers. They think about everything for example the possible outcomes of situations. They over analyze everything. As for those people who aren't very intelligent well they don't think about anything. They're confident because they don't worry about anything.

I see a lot of them around me in everyday life. Why are they full of confidence and intelligent people lack that confidence, because they lean on other stupid people to have confidence, since they are the majority they don't need to question if their behavior is right or wrong. He or she doesn't need to think over his/her actions or thoughts because someone else had already done that for himself/herself and that is right. They don't have any fear as long as they obey what others say them to do.
