Have you seen Mistress of Spices?

I watched a movie today on HBO called Mistress of Spices, with Aishwarya Rai. It was based on a book if I remember right. She gets some kind of magic type of power, or something, from making people different spice blends that are supposed to be just what they need at the time. I was wondering if it was actually based on an actual Indian practice or theory, or if it is just a total fantasy type movie/book. I know other cultures have different beliefs and traditions, and I was curious. I thought maybe some of my friends from India might know.

sounds interesting. im not in india but sounds like something id watch. here in USA, they have a book a woman wrote called "the secret" and its on the asumption, that if you see yourself having what you wish for, over time you will get it. how silly is that? ive tried it and it dosent work. maybe this spice mistress is on the same idea as that? who knows

Hi bunnybon. I'm here in USA too, and I do remember the book 'The Secret.' Lol, I don't believe that really works either. Spice was a good movie though as far as romantic fantasies go. Have a nice Labor Day weekend!

I've the movie, and yes, it was based on a book. I don't know about the accuracy of the story, but, I'd like to read the book, and yes, I found the movie sexy.

I thought I saw somewhere that it was based on a book, but then I couldn't find in the info again to be sure. Thanks.

Sounds very interesting and exotic. I have never heard of it before, so I will have to keep my eyes open.

It's been on HBO the past couple of days. I had never heard of it either, but something about it intrigued me and I just kept watching until the end.
