Our parents are our caretakers, they took care of us ever since we were young, they taught us of values to live by. They ought to be respected since they have been doing all those things to make us better.
So, how do you address your parents? in my case, i call my mother "mama", and my father "papa" as my sign of respect to them, just like how we address others with "miss", or "mister".
i think there's this difference on how we call our parents since we have different cultures and upbringing,,, ^^

I know it's uncommon, but I have always adressed my parents by their names. We all have a name that identifies ourselves in an unique way, so I think that it's good to use it for your family members too

But according to me , addressing our parents with their names is not giving respect to them. I don't know what others think , but i think it is wrong !
But its upon you , because its your life , and you should understand that to whom you should give respect and to whom you should call by their names !

I'm afraid that you're wrong about that, as it's not disrespectful in any way, but I'm not going to tell you what to believe in, of course

i respect our differences,,, maybe thats just how people in your place do so, and your culture might not demand you to address your parents with mama or papa, mom or dad and the like,,, ^^ its just so nice to know that there are those that address their parents with their names, just like we do to our friends,,, ^^

Like I said, her mother was terrible. she was the unexpected, and unwanted daughter her brother, who came along later was the "golden child"
Her mother had no attention for her, it was all lavished on her father and brother.
Did she tell me this? No, her mother's SISTER did!

we in the family used to call mother "remats" and father "erpats", they were
the names since chilhood i've heared from my older siblings, as they call our parents.
for me even these words are inverted mother and father and mispelled also, it shows respect and honor as they are the persons who made us unique and morally upright individuals.
we must address our parents in a respectfull manner, and must show them that they deserved all the love and care we can give to them since they are our greatest possesions that we have and they are the gifts from our creator.

I still call my parents mom and dad. That is what I have called them all my life and I will not change that. Actually I am sure I called them Mommy and Daddy at some point but I don't know when I dropped the Y. I don't understand why people call their parents by their first names. I think it is disrespectful. My mom never wanted us to call her mother. I called her mother once and she got really mad, I never did it again.

maybe those that call their mothers with their first names were told to do so, or could be they think of calling their parents like they do with friends,,, ^^ and yea, i hear some who call their mom "mother", for me, it doesn't sound right,,, ^^

I call my mother "Inay" and my father "Itay". Those are the old-fashioned why of calling Mom and Dad and normally being used by people in the province and by poor people. Nowadays you can seldom hear children calling their parents with those there as Inay and Itay or Nanay or Tatay. It is more modernized these days and people whether rich or poor would prefer calling their mother as Mommy, Mama or Mom while their father they either call them Daddy, Dad, or Papa.

yes, its an old-fashioned way of calling mom and dad, but it doesn't seem like its only used in the provinces or the poor, as you said,,, hehehehe, sorry for contradicting, but i have this friend, they don't live in the province, and they're not poor either, he call his parents "inay" and "itay",,, ^^

I call my mother 'nanay' and my father 'tatay'. All of their grandchildren do the same. Tatay and nanay are endearment name for one's parents in our culture.

yes,,, ^^ well, i guess, in whatever language we address them, as long as respect is present, it doesnt matter,,, ^^ after all, we call them based on how they made us call them when we were younger,,, ^^

I have always had love and respect for my parents. When I was younger i called them mommy and dsddy. As i got older they became mom and dad. I never cslled them mother and father. That sounded to formal and awkward. I know of some families where the parents are called by their first names by their children. N o matter what we call our parents, we should always show them honor and respect and love. They deserve it from their children.

I call my mother "NANAY" and my father "DADDY".In other people I do address them Sir and Ma'am.When I am talking to someone eventhough they are younger than me I usually use the "po" and "opo" words.I cannot forget those words because for us Pinoys it is also the way how you pay respect to others.
