girl's best friend.. diamonds?

dont get me wrong. but i always see that phrase and sentence. do you really think it is true?
how about girls without a diamond..does that mean they dont have best friend?
i find it not true. although diamonds maybe expensive.. they usually are just for elites. i mean, i will be afraid to wear it due to its cost and it might even cost my life if some bad element finds out that what i am wearing is a diamond. i would be afraid to walk around bringing along a best friend that will cost my life. 
common ladies prefer other gemstones which are fashionable and smart. most popular nowadays are birthstones.
am sure it will feel nice to have a diamond or diamonds for that matter but then they will have to be placed in vaults for safekeeping. 
are they really girl's best friend?

Hi Anny dear
A girls best friend is her hubby or her lover with whom she is in a relationship, women in general love to wear jewelry, stones, but real diamond is so costly, a small diamond weighing just 50 cents may cost 25 thousand rupees..
My wife wears one on her nose pin, a gift from me on our honey moon, it dazzles..
When ever i see it, it reminds me of that night..

because pretty much a big percentage girls are money hungry,like take for example nas & kelis,55.000 dollars child support a month,what's up with that?thank you for the interest :)

Now, I will admit that I have a few diamonds (but then it is my birthstone as well). That said, I don't think that they are my best friend and with the exception of my engagement ring and wedding band, I don't wear mine on a regular basis. I do wear my earrings and necklace when I go out someplace nice, but the rest of the time they are kept safely at home. In addition to that, I don't have a lot of really big ones because money doesn't allow that to be an option for me.

Yeah I have came across this line many times in commercials and magazines etc that "DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND".
But I dont think it applies to all the girls , perhaps may be it applies to most of them but cant to all the girls ,and that is quite obvious. Every person have their own character, likes and dislikes so how can all the girls have the same taste , definitely not. So practically I dont think that a diamond is a girls best friend.
Although There are many girls who go crazy about the thought of having a diamond with them like a diamond ring, necklace or bracelet but there can be girls who appreciate other gems and not diamond.
So if you see it like that, its not so.
But why is this line so famous then?
I think because girls mostly like things that sparkles, shines, looks bright and are expensive and possessing which they can make other girls envy ;)
So in that view.." A diamond" becomes their best friend.
Lol.. I hope my response was not diplomatic. I just tried to give the views from both sides.

i dont find your response diplomatic. in fact you have a very good explanation. i, too, being in the same gender as the girls, dont think it is a girl's best friend. but if i happen to have one sparkling diamond, i would love it, but definitely it is not going to be my best friend.

I don't believe in that. I know many girls that really don't care if they have diamond or not. And a best friend should be there to help you out when you have a problem and I don't think a diamond can just do that.
