Hi MyLotters,
Though we've got far more advanced both technologically and mentally, still there are traces of traditional orthodox mentality somewhere in the remotes villeges in India.People there still thinks that a female birth is a curse as it will take a lot of money to make them get married, because the fiance will not be satisfied without money. It was a stigma to the society that once upon a time,a female child used to be buried eventually after birth here in India and young wives is burnt with their dead old husband. But things have changed.India is now free. But the kind of mean mentality still exist? Is this justified at the age when Indian girls has started to go to the Moon?
Thanks
Happy MyLotting!!

Is that really the reason why he hates to have a baby girl? Maybe he just wants a son to see his physique and traits on him. Most men wanted boys so they can spread their family name from generation to generation. They would also love to see their looks on their child.
I love the beauty of Indian girls. Their beauty are said to be "not boring". =p

I do not really want to get into this, sweetie.
Ask Vannie, what i think of this tradition and culture thingie.
Any man who cannot appreciate his child, whether a girl or a boy, is not a man.
Then he is a freaking ninny.
If he wants a son, let him get pregnant then.
TATA.

Mother nature is very clever indeed. For every pregnant lady around 50% of them will have a baby boy and around 50% of them will have a baby girl. It is people that are silly not wanting to have a baby girl.
Look at the situation in China where there is only one child allowed for each couple. They wish to have a son. There seem to be many girls that are going to international adoption. When the men grow up will they all find a wife? If there are 20% ladies and 80% men how many men will be able to get married.
Maybe things should change in India and each family would then think it lovely to have a daughter. It would help if when a couple get married just a small gift is given. I think things are getting better in India to do with females.

Any man who can't love his own child regardless of gender shouldn't bother having children.

Obviously this is not at all justified. Almost all of the people today are accepting girl child today.

Hi yoursjannat,
I like your discussion very much. As you said our india has got far more advanced in both mentally and technologically but there are some people in villages and in cites too who hate girl-child. I saw so many of my relatives who hates the new born girl-child but as you can see our india is changing day to day and im hoping that one day they will stop thing that girl-child is a curse. But as for my parents, they are not worried coz soon im gonna have a little sister :). My parents are very happy for that. Dont worry my friend one day people will change:). Thanks for the discussion jannat, im eager to know what others think of this.

That's just insanity. Women are needed to carry on the species so why would a female child be a curse? It's just too weird to even imagine that there are people that actually think like that. Weirder still that they set the standards and people actually listen to them.

Woah~ Thanks for sharing. I didn't know there was such a 'culture' in India. Yea, indeed nowadays, the trend has changed. Everybody has become more open-minded. Maybe the mean mentality that you've mentioned could still exist, maybe in farms or wherever poverty exists. But I think this type of practices should be banned completely as it's too cruel to the baby. It's a life afterall.

yes.... its a continuous process all over the india. not only in remote villages but also in urban areas too. i have seen the number female orphans are many more than male in a orphan house. most of them are... who were thrown away after the birth bcoz they are females. yet, i have seen in some families that they have a huge number of kids all are females but the last one is male. it means the parents have given birth kid after kid for a male child. what a stupidity. the motto " we two and our two" is all in vain.

sorry for it :( i know that indians have hard life bcs i have an indian friend here in my country and i remember she said she will marry whom her parents say to her marry bcs she wouldnt have courage to say no. also they were always seeing what she was doing even when we talked and they knew me bcs we were best friends still they looked to our conversations online. and while we were in school they let her come home with me when my mum goes take me home bcs they knew who i was already. indians have a hard life bcs i remember when we were all coming home me and her and my other school friends she sometimes couldnt talk much loud with us bcs if there were other indians near they would tell her parents what we were talking about :( so sad :( is like you guys have no freedom :( i really feel sorry for indian girls. also boys too in marriages when they have to marry someone they dont love this is sad for both bcs in both cases they are obligated to marry unless they run away like a friend of my sister did :) she run away and married the guy she loves and is very happy now^^ i wish that soon mentality in india changes :(
