Friends, the ‘World Teacher’s Day ‘ is celebrated across the world on October 5th, with great verve and enthusiasm. Ever since the importance of teachers has been recognized by UNESCO, by adopting the “Recommendation concerning the status of teachers”, World Teacher’s Day has been celebrated annually. This includes celebrations to honor the teachers for their special contribution in a particular field area or the community in general.
For us, in India, It is the birthday [5 September 1888 ],of the second President of India, academic philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. It is considered a "celebration" day, where teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance. At some schools on this day, the responsibility of teaching is taken up by the senior students to show appreciation for their teachers.
I retired on 30th April 2006, after teaching for long 44 years. Just now I received an invitation from the present principal and secretary of the ‘Governing-Body’ of the college from where I retired as Principal, to come to that college for felicitation. I am really excited.
In fact I have taught in this college for about 12 years, in two terms. Hence this honor.
I will also meet some of my teachers, who are still alive by the grace of the Almighty, touch their feet, and seek their blessings. I am Professor due to their blessings only.
I know ‘Teachers Day’ is observed in different countries on different days. So what about your place, how you observe it?
Please share.
Professor

Oh, I didn't know! In my home country school doesn't start until the middle of september, so I never had heard about it, and in my current country they don't seem to celebrate it, unfortunately
I'm happy to know that there's a teacher's day, as teachers make a great effort in developing people's knowledge. Happy teacher's day!

I'm not actually aware of a Teacher's Day here, but that isn't to say that it doesn't exist. I would assume that if there is one it is something that isn't really widely celebrated (as sad as it may seem). Having once been a student myself, I know that the role that a teacher plays is something that is very important to students and parents alike. I really think that teachers should be celebrated every day.

Teachers day is important day for teachers and students. Thanks a lot to the UNESCO to help to observe "World Teachers Day" worldwide. The importance of this day will be more significant if it is observed in a same date all over the world. In this day I remember all of my primary, high school, college and University teachers who have struggled a lot to teach me in my student life.

Hullo Professor!
It is a blessing to have good teachers. I have earned a good reputation as a teacher and I OWE IT all to my teachers. Just now I sent a email to my HOD who taught me in my B.A . and M.A. I have never sought employment but was very successful as a freelance teacher in my own centre. One day I suddenly got an invitation from my former college /Holy Cross College to be a chief guest because word had spread about my service to society and I would cherish this memory all through my life.I owe it all to my teachers.

I'm from India. Happy Teacher's day to all teachers. Teacher's day is a tribute to the hard work of the teachers to educate and shape the future of a child. In India, Teacher's day is celebrated on the 5th of September every year. Indian teacher's day is dedicated to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, one of the greatest teachers and scholars of all the time. Students in India dress up like teachers on this very great day and take classes. I enjoyed it in my school days.

Happy Teacher's Day to all the teachers out there! and also to you Proffesor2010, happy teacher's day!
Here in the Philippines, we celebrate teacher's day on the month of December, I am not sure about the day. But, as far as I remember it, it's celebrated on the 10th of December.
During the Teacher's Day celebration, we always had a program recognizing our dearest teachers. We, students, initiate the programs and of course with the help of some of our teachers. It has always so much fun during that day. I think, it's the only day that teachers are really appreciated.
