one way to make money is to save it!

I have been looking for lots of ways to save money lately. I don't make that much right now so if I can keep more of what I do make in my hand I save! My daughter makes her own laundry soap and cleaning soap at a fraction of the cost of buying it in the store. I usually trade her out some of my goods for those. It saves in the long run. Then this morning I was down to that last little bit of dish soap in the bottle. I just couldn't stand wasting it but it wasn't enough to save for the next go around. So I added about half a bottle of water. And there ya go! I have hand washing soap! It's just enough to not be slimy but gets the hands clean! I love it when things like that work out! What are some of your making money by saving money ideas?

That is a good way to save some money. Though my concern always is while we might do something like that, I mean putting water with soap to make it last longer, the next time we go to the store we pick up a new bottle and end up throwing the soapy water away... then it's not really saving.
Using less paper towels to clean messes up and more of the dish rags we already have is one way to save that we use around here.

Paper Towels can be a waste really. I don't understand the commercials for the Kleenex Hand Towels, that's just a waste of production there.
I say a hand towel is okay and you should know when to wash it depending on how often it's used ya know?

You have added yet another wonderful idea. I personally do not buy paper towels. However, I have some that some people gave me when I got my apartment. I gave one roll to my daughter and still have most of one roll left! That's how few of them I use!

Well I don't know if saving money can actually be called as making money, but yes saving money helps a lot in tougher times and in tight situations. My bank roll currently has dipped below the minimum required balance and I am striving to make some money online. I can ask my folks for money but I rather not, they have given a lot and I needed to be a little more responsible and careful when I was spending their hard earned money. So I'm not gonna trouble them more. I saved quite a lot of pennies for me to hang on to dear life!

Absolutely saving is making money, because that money can be put in a savings account and bring in more money from interest.
That's like when I stopped smoking, I took the same amount of money I used for smoking two packs a day and put it in a savings account. Later, it was rolled into an IRA and it saved our necks when things started going downhill. If I hadn't SAVED that money and put it to a better use, it would have literally gone up in smoke!

Yeah, technically I guess it's not making money although it is "making money..." last longer! lol! Saving keeps it in my hands so I can send it for the bills though! lol! Just trying to count my pennies that's all!

P.S. figure out the savings if you stop smoking right now and you are a two-packer. At a generously low cost of $3.50 a pack, the total comes to $2464.00 for one year. Add even a percentage or two of interest and it starts adding up very nicely. I had thirty years worth of these savings before we had to dip into them after my husband had five heart bypasses and then a stroke. We lost our business, but survived nonetheless.

I try to buy in bulk when I can & when things are on special...I also buy things from the discount shop like soap - yesterday I bought 3 packs (with 3 bars in each pack)on special 3 packs for $AU5...I also try to use more environmentally friendly ways to clean like instead of putting soap into my bucket of water to mop, I put in some white vinegar, my spray & wipe is a mix of white vinegar & water, etc.
I too turn out the lights when not in use plus if you drive by my house from about 7pm onwards, the only light you can see is from my tv & computer.
If I need something, I keep an eye on my local freecycle posts to see if someone is giving away what I need (I give away on there too)...
I am also the sort of person who won't open something new until the old one is gone like toothpaste, shampoo, cordial, etc...
I also make alot of sweets like cake & cookie instead of buying ready made as this ends up being cheaper too.
I would love to know how your daughter makes soap out of borax, etc as I have been looking for soap recipes but can't find any easy ones.

IM me and I'll try to find out what she uses and how she makes it. It might be online somewhere. I don't open one thing until the other container is empty either. I also don't eat out... hardly ever!

I suppose if you have enough money to save then that is nice. Unfortunately I'm not in that position myself and I find it very difficult to save money! I suppose there is the argument that no matter how much money you have in life you are always able to save something even if it is a small amount. That's very creative of your daughter though and definitely sounds like a great idea.
I do have one of those huge coke tins and it has a slot at the top so that I can insert coins and so forth. I have one for the silver and another for the pennies or copper coins. These two tins do become very useful at times when I need some extra change for something. I know that there are quite a few websites out there now on money saving techniques and some of them are very good I have to admit. Andrew

So you do save! Turning out the lights that aren't being used is saving too! It's pennies, but it all eventually adds up!

Oh, I love saving coins! I do it on a regular basis, and deposit them all into my savings account after a few months. It really does add up. I do think most people can save SOMETHING, even if it is not much though. So you should consider putting some more aside!

You are absolutely right! The first and easy way to make money is to save it wisely. Well, we stick the old and thin soap to the new one so that it can be used in full. Then, squeezing the tooth paste tube as well as the shaving cream tubes and even tear it at the last to use it without waste is one good idea, I know.

Don't show mercy for those tubes! Follow my idea of tearing them down to use all the paste within, adhering to the wall of the tube. We pay for them too! Somebody may laugh at you but ignore them. they don't know the real value of money. Living frugal is an art.

Saving money is one way to make it, but it is very hard! I barely make enough to save for my rent. How does your daughter make her own laundry soap?

You are so very right!!! I have the same trouble myself! That's why I'm trying to save every penny I can! It will eventually add I up I figure... she uses borax, and a bar of soap - whatever kind you want. She is trying to go as natural as possible so she uses like Ivory or something with less chemicals and no fragrances. (allergies) but you can use whatever kind you like. I can't remember how she mixes is all up but it ends up smelling really nice (hence the soap) and it also does a good job. All that for about a penny a load!

saving money is the best way to go. just putting a few bucks a way each month is the best way to insure you have a happy future. people think that $5 or $10 a week or month to put in your savings isn't going to do much. I am telling you that it makes a great big difference. i to put at least $52 per paycheck into my savings account. that is on top of the $100 a month i put into my 401k thru my job. in just the two years that i had my 401k plan i have over $6000 in there. it's a wonderful thing and in two more years i should have over $12000 in there. now that's a lot of money in saving for just 4 years. I will continue to put my money away. as well as saving my buy bring my breakfast and lunch to work. by buying things on sale only. there are so many ways to save money

That is a very good idea friend... actually to save money is to make money, I completely agree with that... I am also into saving now, thought I have a hard way to save money because I am still paying lots of bills yet when I am done with this so I could save already, at least I know how to allocate every peso accordingly ....Good day!

I buy nothing new! The Salvation Army is my salvation on making a dollar stretch further.
I also buy white shirts from thrift shops and decorate them with stencils or free-hand drawings and have unique shirts (other people want)for under $2.00.
I find different ways to stretch leftovers. I made a great soup the other day that was made with a spaghetti sauce base. The balance turned out to be a wonderful new versionof lasagna!
I make a lot more meals from scratch. Why spend $4 - $8 dollars for a pre-cooked roast that only feeds two people (maybe) when I can get a lovely large Boston Butt roast and make three meals for three people out of it for a couple of dollars more?
Coupons, coupons, coupons. Yes, they are a lot of work, but when I walk out of the grocery with $65 more dollars in my checking account than I would have had without them, it's worth it.
Online sales places like Ebates, Shopathome, etc. Not only can I often get great sales on much-needed items, but I also get free shipping and money sent back to me in a chubby check every three months.
I repair my own plumbing as much as possible and took woodshop classes to build items for sometimes a tenth of what it would cost at the stores.
Once a year, a store in our area does a monster sale. I went in one year and walked out with full wardrobes for me, my husband and my daughter - for $150! Some clothing was buy one at a huge discount - get two free!
Saving is a challenge and can be more fun than spending! Love this discussion!

Wow! You have some awesome ideas! I do shop at Goodwill and other thrift stores or even at garage sales. And I also use coupons. I don't use to omany, I am careful to use the ones on items I would buy anyway and sometimes I do try new things using them. I try to use them where they give double coupons.. that's great! Thanks for all the input!

I completele agree with you, we can save lots of money by doing our own jobs. But unfortunately / fortunately I dont get much time to do more of my works. I can only wash my cloths on weekends at max. Hope I get some more time to save some money I spend on some other works.

Yea I agree. The old saying goes"A penny saved is penny earned" It is true in all respects and in every walks of life. In every act we easily notice that we could have saved something if we acted in some other way. Is it not? This applies particularly in spending. All luxury items if avoided we save a lot.Take any expenditure. We can spend on necessities. But not expensive items.say dress what we need is covering the body.we can buy decent dress but not expensive one.Simple advice. When you go to a mall and want to buy some item you can notice cheap and expensive item for the same use. Why not buy cheap one if it can serve the purpose?

You are sure right about all that! I am sure we could all cut out something extra somewhere. You are right about being able to buy things less expensively than what we do. Like our clothes and such can be done a lot less.

I agree with you that save money is one way to make money. Take myself for example. I'm a college student,I often got money from my parents one year ago,but now I make a living by myself in the college. Each month,I can get some money from my college as a subsidy.I also took some other measures to make money.Such as do part-time job, help my tutor to take some experiments. Then I collect the money to deal with the cost in my daily life.At the beginning,I'm feared it will be difficult for me,but now I do very well.

Keeping the expenses down will help in accummulating money. In fact, I have been doing that. With the prices, including fuel and energy charges, going higher and higher, the monthly expenses are soaring, dwindling away the earnings from all the hard work.

Eating less! I've always been a big eater and often eat when I'm bored not hungry. So I've been trying to eat less for money reasons and diet reasons. the best one I've found is to split my evening meal into two and have it as dinner and supper rather then a full sized dinner and supper. It's definately saving me some pennies and saving on the waistline.

My partner, George and I, shop at Aldi. We save a lot of money on items we use everyday. Such as paper towls, tolit paper, napkins and various food items. Everything is at a much lower cost. So we save money based on where we shop. Placing meats in the freezer we get two weeks worth of meals out of some of them as well. A very few items (such as milk) we buy regurally, but we go through it quickly.
If we can we buy in bolk with things like hand soaps, towls, napkins and other dry goods. We pay our bills as soon as they come in. Don't buy goods or services we don't need, and look for ways to save. We don't save that much, but we do pretty good for ourselves. We save where we can and bite the bullet on things like fuel for the truck. We shop every week alternating between publix and Aldi, picking up sales.

Well when I put money in the bank I make sure I can't take it out. I give my bank card to someone and tell them not to let me have it no matter what I say in the future to get it back.
When I run out of makeup.. I keep using it.. Especially for mascara, I always find myself using empty mascara's.
I use things until they're COMPLETELY broken. I had 2 hair straighteners before that I was using. One was being held together by tape, the other one had pieces falling off it it, and I had to hold the pieces on while I straightened my hair.
I always wash my clothes with the least amount of laundry soap possible. It says add a cap, I had a quarter of a cap. Or if I'm not doing a whole load I just add a drop. It actually works fine, it gets my clothes clean still.
