Best Response already given out, so less inclined to reply?

Hi friends,
I have heard some mentioned that once a Best Response has been awarded out for a particular topic, he does not feel like replying to it anymore. I find this a strange sentiment to have. I thought the main aim of mylot is to have a discussion going? Do we participate here in order to earn the BR award? Do you think we shouldn't give out BR too early as it might discourage others from responding? What is your opinion on this? Thanks in advance.

Hey bluemoon! It doesn't stop me from responding! But, it is
nice if the discussion starter does wait a bit before making
their pick only because there are some people who feel that
it's only right to give other's time to reply. There are
people who do feel slighted, although I don't know if they
think they get more money for it or they really care.
As I said, if I feel the discussion is something I am interested
in it isn't going to stop me from putting my "1 cent" in!

Hello Opal,
I always welcome any cents from anyone... I would give more time because the more cents the better, then I will pick the most beautiful cent to be given the BR award.

I don't even pay attention to whether or not the best response has been given out. If I am interested in a discussion I will respond to it even if the best response has already been handed out.

Yes, I feel that a topic would have responses if it is interesting, the BR shouldn't be a factor in warranting replies. Thanks.

If I have something to say, I reply anyway. I do get a little annoyed when a discussion has been up less than an hour, and the BR is already awarded. But ultimately, everybody has to choose their own criteria for how to handle awarding them. And once in a while, I get one that is just so good, that I do it right away. Usually I wait until everybody has had a chance though.
Er, that's when I'm current. Right now, I am months and months behind. Bad Dawn...

Personally i try to reward them in the end of the discussion where it starts to "cool off" unless there is an answer that really jumps into my eyes telling me it deserves it. Im not dicussion to acchieve best response, but ofcause i get proud if i obtain that

I give you kudos to that response, I cannot agree more with you about this. That is also the reason that I only answer on discussions which catches my eye and where I know I have a good answer or comment...

Hi Downwindz,
I don't know how many people respond with the BR in mind, seems silly to do that because we can't predict what the poster will like or dislike. All responses should come from our hearts.

Thanks for that, and kudos to you too.
I'm sure we can identify when an answer is sincere or not.

Hi sweetie.
I personally feel that a BR should only be given after a week or more.
As there is such a big time difference between us, you need to give others a chance to give their opinion as well.
Even if a BR was given already after a week, people can still reply, though.
I actually get so frustrated when a BR is given in a day after the discussion was posted.
That's just me.
TATA.

Hi saph,
I give people more time than that! I'll leave it for about 2-3 weeks before I give out because I understand many of us are very busy and cannot log in often. It is nice to receive responses even after a week has passed.
Well, I should say, some are very "efficient". They want to clear their fast.

I normally would respond to a post I'm interested in regardless of whether a br award has been given out or not. I'm sure like many others it feels good to be heard not just for the br award.
I think br awards should best be given out after sometime when the posters thought not many responses or no more responses would be coming in. That would not forfeit the late responder who might have the best comment.

Sometimes after the BR is given out, the discussion is somehow "revived" and there may be some responses after that. I hope to see something like that happened
Yes, it is good to wait a while to give more people the chance of receiving the BR.

I think a lot of times it really depends on the person and the discussion being discussed here as well. I know for me if I feel I can still contribute to it I often times will still post something there. Even when it is a couple months or yrs. old we still earn from every post, so if I am inclined to where I feel like responding when reading a discussion I will.

Hi Krause,
For topics that were started months or years ago, I am less likely to reply regardless whether the BR has been awarded since I might not get an answer back from the poster. Of course, I do not expect to get an answer from every response I made, but there would be a higher chance if the topic is more recent.

I do know some who keep track of their topics, and will reply, regardless of how many months have gone by. I certainly enjoy responding to topics by starters like these.

Hi bluemoonpavilion, I believe that there are those who think that way but it doesn't bother me. I'm always pleased to get a best response but I don't think of it until I receive one. I always wail at least a week and often longer before giving a BR but that's often because I'm doing something else and don't get around to doing it. Blessings.

Hi Pose,
It's not bothering me either, I'm just wondering about the mentality behind it. It is always a pleasant surprise to receive one, then sometimes I go back and review what I have written that warrants it.

haha, it's time you are made aware of it and you can start giving best responses out under your "unresolved" tab. I assure you that you are giving happiness to others as well as yourself!

Well, in my case, I really do not mind if the best response has been awarded to the discussion already. If I find the discussion interesting, then I respond to it for as long as I have something to share about it.

Well, to me, it doesn't matter whether the BR is already awarded to others or not as long as the topic interests me, I will reply to it. Giving out BR early also depends upon the owner of the topic. If he sees it right to give the BR to the response which he thinks come up to what he wants in hit topic why not? even if it the first or second, response if it hits the right thing, why not?

Hi Bebs,
Of course there are many who hold this view, as long as the topic is interesting, they will reply. I guess the first thing we need to concentrate on here is, how to make our topics interesting.
As for giving out after a few responses, maybe he has really encountered one which strikes him as the best, I just feel that a fair chance should be given to everyone.

I could care less about best responses.. It's not like you get extra from it- so what's the point of "needing" it.
I personally do not make my best responses.. for months, usually.

It can be like a plague which could proudly displayed on our profile page. There are no extra earnings but I guess it is like an honour. Also it does wonders to our morale.
Delaying it for months is better than not giving out at all.

hello burrito,
You post only a few times per day, does that you mean that you seldom find interesting topics? I must work harder to provide you with some
Many times I feel there are lots of interesting topics but sometimes everyone else has said everything I want to say, so I just read and didn't respond. Other times, even though a topic has been well discussed, I still feel like poking my nose in!

I don't always search for topics to comment on. I have a few different interests I look at and I don't want to post something just to try to collect a payout. There are too many other peole doing that.

hi blue!
yeah i heard that before!when thing come to this, i would say that do not answer back the response if you are not intended to answer them anymore.i think if that is the end of the discussion the admin should delete it after all.yet there are still in the discussion list.so i think once you start in your discussion there will be there forever, unless you closed your account.hmm...i don't think this is correct too.should ask the admin anyway.
as a conclusion,i don't care about that at all.i will always give my response to any discussion which can attract my fussy eyes even if the fellow won't reply it back.

Thats pretty silly. I dont care if people have already gotten a best response I still like to comment and tell them my opinion. I rarely leave best responses for my discussions that I start. I just forget to do that. Plus I dont like to leave them to early because who knows how far down the road it will be when someone comes along and leaves a better response and you cant retract the best response once its been put in place.

Hello Bluemoonpavilion,
In my opinion, it depends on the subject that is being discuss. There are discussion that doesn't need to be long because the subject is so direct to the point. But if the topic requires us to share our opinion, whether BR has been awarded or not, if I have something to share, I would share it, there is no stopping to that.

hello honeylore,
I think a good topic should be one which is quite broad and warrants a wide array of different opinions. Of course there are some exceptions when people ask for help on certain problems and there is a limited number of solutions that others can offer.

Best Response does not influence my decision to post or not to post. I don't feel the need to have the BR (it is nice once in a while) so if I see a discussion that I am interested in I will reply to it. I like to comment on things that I believe that I will have a good valued response to. If a discussion interests me I will reply to it. Best Response is great but it is not all that I am interested in.

Me personally, the best response thing doesn't effect whether or not I'll respond to any discussion. I think it's a neat feature though. I smile whenever I get that email about someone marking one of my responses as the best. I think thats pretty cool.
I try not to rate the best responses to my discussions until after maybe a week has past. A few days of inactivity on the topic indicates that pretty much everyone who had an opinion has already chimed in.

hello bluemoon,
some times i feel guitly of this. but that's because i don't have much time for myself on other things. so, i have no choice but to limit my responses and comments even in my own discussions. i wold only come back, if there is time.

The BR shouldn't be the deciding factor on whether one should still contribute to a discussion. Although it is nice to be recognized for something meaningful to the topic, a timeless discussion should go on and on. If all will recognize that, then maybe we wouldn't have any duplicate discussions.
Although it has taken me quite a while to hand out BR's to my own discussions, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate the ones who gave me theirs.

Hi bounce,
It would be quite difficult not to have duplicate discussions when the new one is worded just slightly different from the old one. For one thing, the old one would not appear in the new topics that come up and thus less likely to attract attention. For another, people are always looking at new topics, to keep going back to the same topic, like maybe one year old would be boring. Hope you don't mind, these are just my personal thoughts to your response.
