Does the books you read determine your personality?

actually for me, the books you read may reflect to your personality because whatever you were reading you always get some inputs and ideas which can be reflected on the way you interact with other people. if you like to read newspaper, you are socially aware with what is happening in your society. you gain wide knowledge about many things in life. great day

I agree with debsgw. Who and what we are and enjoy reflects in what we do and how we react, including what we read. It is our experiences throughout life that helps to form our characters.

I agree with blueblink that the books we choose to read tend to reflect rather than influence our personality - choose being the operative word there lol. Most of us have to read books we wouldn't choose at some time or another and I guess those are the ones that may influence our personality in some way - we are reading them because it is demanded of us and we are expected to learn something from them and use that new knowledge in some way. However the books we ourselves choose to read are much more likely to reflect who we are or want to be at the time for example fiction gives us a chance to escape from the stresses of everyday life for a while, non-fiction may help us to learn more about someone or something that interests us on a personal level, personal development books help us to look at ourselves in a new light and learn to change the bits of ourselves that we think need some work :)

i think it reflects only a part of your personalty but not your complete personality...if you like reading newspapers it means you like to be updated with current events but when you read a book on calculus it doesnt mean that your a mathematician but it may mean that you need to study math...

I don't read books, so do that mean I have no personality?hehe just kidding. I only read books related to my course. But I read articles in the internet and most of it are my interests. Maybe, it can determine your personality because the reading is somewhat related to your interests. You wont read a book if you don't like it right? Or would you?

haha Me too, sometimes! Especially when I feel lazy. I have so much to do in college but little time to do it.. and reading isn't in my interests on doing what I do. Plus the major books in college are way too thick with small fonts, very difficult and boring to read! It depends on my mood if I like to read it or not. haha

I hope not. Well, that it only reflects my personality as far as interests, not character. Because if what I read determined my personality, it would be a pretty scary and twisted one. I've read some nice sensitive stories and books I'd consider uplifting. But, I've also read lots of books about murder, mostly serial killers. And books on diseases and the Holocaust. While I'm interested in these things, they aren't what I want my own personality to be like.

I don't know. I read all kinds of stuff, and I'll listen to audio books I might not actually pick up and read on paper. I like science fiction, some mysteries, romances, if they are funny especially. I enjoy history and science in non-fiction.

Hmmmnnn.... Not really... Somehow... What do you mean exactly a book anyway? hehe... Is it a pocketbook or a Bible or law books? Well, it depends into what I read... Mostly, of course, I read pocketbooks... Mystery, suspense, romantic/drama, or autobiography in a novel...
