Can any one tell me if there is an easy way and free way(in layman terms please I am an old biddy!!)that will enable me to open files that are on Power Point when I don't have it on my PC. Trying to get something from my son's school website for his homework

All the suggestions above are good ones, and if all else fails, you can try registering for the Beta of Office Live Workspace. This seems to be the direction Microsoft is going, offering their applications from the web (I assume for a fee), rather than forcing people to purchase the software. The Beta is free, and in theory should give you the full functions of Power Point.

I don't quite understand the question. Are you trying to download a powerpoint file (.ppt) and then open it on your computer, but you don't have powerpoint? If that is the case you can try this. http://download.cnet.com/PowerPoint-Viewer-2007/3000-18483_4-10742145.html It is from CNET so it is surely safe. I just don't know what it's features are. One thing for sure, it is just a viewer. You can open PPT files but I don't think you can edit it.

I started downloading viewers for things from Microsoft Office. Then I found out about Open Office and that is all that I use now for the computers that do not have Microsoft office. I will do this when I get my new laptop, as I am certain it will not come with software built in.

Hiya chem, Although I can´t give you any tips about Power point now I know what it´s about thank you I have also learned something new. We have got Open office but I have not found those whatsit files yet. So I will look at them another time that will come in very handy for me too. Maybe that will take on for the Kiddies here too as they have to pay for all the School Books and everything nothing is given to them for free.

Hi chem, Like those who have suggested above, open office is pretty good, we can use all the office applications with it. Also, you can download the powerpoint viewer from microsoft, it is free too. However, it is just a viewer meaning you cannot do any editing. Hope this helps...

You can try open office . Go to yahoo.com and search open office it is a free microsoft office type of program. It has a powerpoint application that will allow you to open up the same file type as if you had microsoft powerpoint. I hope this really helps you out. Good luck.
