...that leaves the kitchen in perfect order after cooking? Or do you take a break after cooking, do something else, and go cleanup after a while?
I confess that much as I love to cook, I loathe to clean up the mess I leave. I usually have a coffee break after cooking with some mylotting or TV watching before I get my sleeves up and start cleaning up.
After I cook I remember the TV show of my youth, Bewitched) where the darling with, Samantha, moved her nose and everything went to its place.

I live alone so I must be my own boss. It´s not easy all the time as the boss is sometimes very lazy!

Generally speaking, most of the time we really run out of dishes is when the roommate falls down on her other job - unloading the dishwasher when its clean...
I'm only about 5'1 and she's closer to 5'10 so she gets to put the stuff she takes down away - I can stuff more into the dishwasher...

In the morning after cooking my eggs, I like to put the eggs in the dish, clean the pan, then sit sown and eat. That way, that's one less thing I have to wash. But at night, I'm like you. I'll eat, have a cup of coffee then do something I want to do - then clean up te mess.

I don´t like dirty dishes either. I have a break after cooking but I will not leave my kitchen dirty untill the next day. Having a dishwasher helps a lot as all I clean are my pots and pans.

We have an old small house and while I won't say we couldn't have a dishwasher in our kitchen, the only place we could fit one is under the sink and we have other things under there - soap, pine sol, plastic bags etc. The thing is, it's supposed to just be my girlfriend and I but one of her kids had to move in with his girlfriend so we do have both pans and dishes. The thing is, she showed me a way she does it that makes it goe real fast. The dishes are in the soapy water. Have the water running and instead of cleaning one dish then rinsing it we wash the dish, put it on the right sink, grab another, wash it, put it in the right sink letting the water rinse all of them. That way you are continuously just washing instead of stopping each time to rinse. Then we put them all in the dryrack. I don't know how good I explained that but basically, we don't need a dishwasher.

I did not have a dishwasher until about 14 years ago, when I had a back surgery. The dishwasher really helped then and now, because I cannot be long time standing in one place before my back starts hurting.

I also hate to clean up after cooking a big meal, but I also can't stand the kitchen to be dirty so I immediately clean up so that it is done. I do not like my dishes to sit even in the sink. I know that I have to get them done, so I just do it!

Congratulations! I try to do that, but there are many things that catch my interests. But I love to cook and I do that well so when I have company, my friends are willing to help me with what I don´t like.

Yeah, that wiggle of the nose would be nice some days, like right now. It is 10:21PM right now and I am mylotting instead of cleaning my kitchen. I set the dishwasher a couple hours ago and have yet to put the clean dishes away so that I can put the dirty supper dishes in it.
We had a late dinner tonight, just a couple hours ago, and I still haven't cleaned the kitchen. If the dishwasher was empty I would have cleaned the rest of the kitchen by now but my daughter went out without doing it, her turn, and I am being lazy.
I rarely clean up the kitchen right after cooking or eating. It usually takes me a couple hours before I get to it, sometimes hoping my daughter would do it even when it isn't her turn.
Cheers,
Chris

I used to live alone until I got sick, a couple of months ago, and I got some help at home for some hours. She does most of those jobs during the week but on weekends I tend to leave the emptying of the wishwasher to my daughters when they come to visit me.

I prefer cleaning up the mess to cooking (LOL)! I like to take care of the mess as soon as possible after completing a meal because, for me the longer I leave it the more difficult it becomes to get started. I try to be as neat as possible when I cook and wash up as I go; it makes life a lot easier at the end!

I wish I could leave the kitchen in perfect order after cooking. I do some cleanup as I go, but the bulk of it later. Cooking IS work and cleanup is MORE work, and more tiring after cooking a complex meal.
I don't have a dishwasher other than myself and most of my family and friends love to eat, not clean.
So, would be good to have an easy way to clean a la "Samantha's nose", or the old commercial about "Mary Mild", coming in with her brand of cleaner to make the dishes vanish as well.

I understand you perfectly well. I do some cleaning as I go along, but it seems there´s always a lot more than I can do. I usually wash enough pots as to fill the sink rack. I leave the drying to the guardian angel with a dish towel over them. Then I come again a long time later, to put away the washed pots and wash some more. I have tried the Samantha nose, but I can´t even move the darn thing, even if it´s not as beautiful as hers.

Everytime I cook I always clean up right after I am finished. I can't stand a mess in the kitchen...it drives me crazy. lol I used to love the show Bewitched and wish I could wiggle my nose and make everything perfect like she did.

I don´t like the mess I leave in the kitchen but I usually don´t know where to start. So I clean a couple of pots to have a clean concience and do the rest later.

I also hate to clear the mess after cooking.I always want the kitchen to be entirely clean .I will be restless till it is tidy .I have a servant maid to clear up .She comes a bit late .So I wait for her a little tensed up doubting whether she would come or not .The day that she does not turn up I clear up the the kitchen top ,a little complaining and mumbling .I wish there was a wand at the swing of which everything will be absolutely clean.

I wish I had a maid: I have a long list of things I would not do any more at my house!. I had a maid when the children were little and my husband was alive. Then we could afford help. Now I do all the work at home. Some of it I like (like cooking and gardening), some I loathe. I love to cook but I don´t like to clean up later. Yet it is my job and noone will do it for me

The nose didn´t work for me either! If I had the power, I sure would put it to work.
At this right moment I made a very nice meal. I have a boy (not SO young anymore) that is helping me with the raised beds and I feel I must feed him properly. But I´m not acostumed to cook at this hour so there are the dirty pans and here I am, posting.

I try to clean as I am cooking. I don't like to eat a full meal and then be left with the entire mess to clean up later. Washing dishes as I am cooking helps to keep the mess down and keeps me in the kitchen to attend to the food while it is cooking instead of being here on myLot & letting my food burn! Another reason for this is that if I am lucky enough to have help with the dishes after eating I don't want to scare them off and not have them volunteer again!

I wish I was like you. Contratulations! You have overcome your lazy tendencies. I haven´t yet and I am too old to change my ways. I did what you did when there were more people living with me. But I guess I have learned bacd ways by being alone.

Hiya margi,
Sometimes I would like to have a magic nose like that and twitch it and hey presto everything is cleaned up in one go. Also everything would be ironed too am I asking for too much? No not me. But it would be nice to have something like that just for once.

I don´t need Samantha´s nose for ironing, friend. I decided a long time ago that I would not iron anything. No, you are not asking too much. We all should have Samantha´s nose

I love to cook and I really like you loathe to clean up. I try to clean as I go to make it not such a mess, but sometimes that is not always feasible. Luckily for me my husband is a neat freak who does not know how to cook. So unless he is not home for some reason, I do the cooking and he does most of the clean up. I have dreamed of twitching my nose for other things like the laundry, only if it would work.

for me the ideal order is cook - clean - eat - & clean. (i've learned that it's easier to clean right after cooking because stain and dirt will be much tougher to clean if you leave them long enough to dry.) at first it was hard to keep it this way but eventually i developed the right habit. and i like cleanliness - this keeps me motivated no matter how tiresome cleaning could be.

When I have guests and don´t want to miss out in the conversation I fill the sink with lukewarm water and a little bit of detergent and dump everything there until the dinner is over.

I have learnt through the years that it is better for me to clean up as I go along. I just got sick and tired of leaving things until later to clean up and I would feel overwhelmed and often left it until I couldn't stand it any more. So now I clean as I go and true to myself if I dare not to the same thing still happens. I won't clean until much later or even until the next day.

It is a sensible thing to do, but I get involved in my cooking and start to daydream while I do it and somehow pots and pans start piling up. But I don´t leave it until the next day because I like my morning coffee without interferences.

When I used to cook, I like washing while cooking so that by the time I finish cooking, the only things left to wash are the after-meal dishes. My daughter does the after-meal dishes so it's my break time.
However, if washing stands in my way and my daughter is out, I do it before I cook for the next meal. The kitchen does not look messed up with a few plates in the sink anyway. When I get to take a break and start on something, even if it's just watching a movie or reading my mails, I want to keep my hands off the water until the next time I am due to work with water again. The water's cold here.
