It sounds like you put in too much baking soda. Baking unlike cooking is an exact science. If you are following a recipe you must be sure to follow the measurements exactly, any small amount that is off on any ingredient can ruin the whole thing. Also make sure the oven is at the baking temperature when you place the cake in, don't put it in early. Also make sure all of your ingredients are still good, check the experation dates. Also make sure you are using the correct flour. If you are using self rising flour that could ruin a cake as well, you need to use what ever flour the recipe calls for weather it be regular flour or cake flour. Follow these instructions and you should be able to make a beautiful cake.

i think you used the wrong pan for the cake or maybe your temperature was too high or maybe you over mixed the cake. there are a lot of factors. in baking ,recipe has to be exact. if you followed the recipe correctly then maybe those of the things i mentioned earlier were the problem. also, you have to make sure that wen you poured the batter, you pour it evenly on the pan. i you poured it starting in the middle and not you didn't even it, it is most likely that your cake will be like a volcano. i hope i have helped. happy baking.

I don't think I could do it. I don't blame you. Usually, I can look at instructions on boxes and can understand how to do it. But I looked at instgrutions on a cake mix one day and thought "forget this." that is one thing I can't see coming out good if I tried.
