yesterday when i switched on my lap,it was not just starting or booting ,in simple words it had gone dead!my lap which i had purchased about a year ago. So,when i enquired about it from the service centre i came to know that the movable parts cost was actually more or rather equivalent to my total cost of purchase only,so in simple ways to put it time had come ripe for me to go and buy and purchase a new lap now!so in this era of rather fast computing ,the rate of disposing electronic media has also gone up exponentially increasing,so,welcome to the era of DEAD COMPUTERS!

Its quite true, it happened with one my friends, he had a very expensive laptop of it's time. As soon as the warranty periond lapsed, in next 2 or 9 months, his lappy went down. When he took it to service center, he learned that, a few parts were unavailable and a few were costly enough to make around 35% of the cost of his laptop and around 50% cost of the same model of a brand new model. Then what, he repaired it at a local computer shop and sold it and bought a new laptop. Durability stands to be a new concern in the way of electronics. Lets hope, along with the technology, even durability is enhanced.

it is not only your problem. But the whole world is looking for means of disposing electronic goods. Earlier, there are people ready to use second hand things but now there are cheap things for every one's purse. And the companies are updating their models so that your today's new trend becomes old fashion tomorrow itself. Hell with the advancement of technology, we are gathering huge mass of e-wastes.

I feel sorry for your computer. Well things have rather changed a lot compare to last time. 10 years back, all the electronic parts were like godly and you didn't need much repairs or maintenance. In the current years, all electronic no matter computer, laptops, television, or anything regarding electronic mechanical stuffs, it's rather pitiful to say that they have changed a lot so that they will break down faster. In the event that they can sell you cheaper somehow and make you recycle them about 2-3 years once. This is to ensure they have sales equivalent to their productivity. Comparing to last time, they have lower sales due to their electronic parts would stay for more than 10 to 15 years. It was so pretty cool in those days. My old computer which was 5 years back is still functioning but it's just that the specifications doesn't come with the current market and technologies.

The computer industry seems to be all charlatans! When I purchased my Dell, its list price was $699. By the time I finished paying for it, I had paid out over $1700 and the warrantee had lapsed! When I started having problems with it, Dell wanted more to fix it by remote than the local computer doctor! Guess who I trusted with my computer. LOL... I have had to reformat my hard drive so many times, I have learned how but still have not been able to get my wifi to work without help from the doctor. So I use my ethernet cord and don't use my wifi until I can come up with the $$$ to pay the doctor. Still, I have managed to make this baby last me two years so far (knock on wood) and hope to continue using it for the next two years or more, just to make it worth what I paid for it! By the way...that amount I paid was a settlement! Dell has the highest interest rates I have ever seen and the most extortionistic business practices I have come across in my life! I will not be doing business with Dell again!

Hi alaskanray, it is rumored on most sites and in business industry that Dell are really meant "NOT TO LAST" their market strategy was to offer a good PC package (in terms of processor speed, memory, hard disk etc) in an affordable means by offering a flexible mode of payment to the consumer market for the prospective victims (I mean buyers) to be lure.

I think you made a wise decision: buy a new one. There is still a lot of fake things that are exaggerated as exquisite ones by the exaggerating people. Let the fake things go . Just like when you break up with a girl or a boy. Just let her or him go. Who defines that you have to fasten to an exact girl or an exact boy?
