That's not my name

My son came home from school yesterday telling me that his new teacher keeps calling him by his brother's name as he had the same teacher in the past and they do look alike even though there is two years seperating them. I told him not to worry as the teacher will get used to it before too long and tell the teacher every time he does it! He didn't seem too bothered but I really hope that he doesn't grow up feeling like he is walking in his brother's shadow. Thankfully it never happened to me because I have brothers! Were you ever called by a siblings name when you were growing up? Does it happen even now?

I never was called by a sibilings name in school but growing up I was called all sorts of names.. no I mean names names not like curse words or anything. My name, My sister's name and my cousin's name all starts with the letter A. There were times I was called by my sister's name (usually by my mom) sometimes I was called by my cousin's name (usually by my grandparents).. It was annoying but funny at the same time.

Hi there SomeCowgirl I too am guilty of calling my kids by their brother's name but luckily they are all boys and it is usually when I have got a lot to say in one go. Am I forgiven haha At least they think it is funny when I do it, silly old mum, unless I am telling one of them off haha Thanks for your response

I am sure they think it's funny when you are yelling at them and accidentally say the wrong name. Not sure if that's ever happened to me though, usually if they're yelling and say the wrong name it's only because they're calling for us. Now that we're older and each have our own respective husband's I think they've gotten better about it, plus I suppose they associate me with my husband, my sister with hers and my cousin with hers.

Oh my gosh that is so annoying. My sister is 14 months older then I am so she was just the grade ahead of me in school. I was always getting called her name it drove me nuts. Then when I got in high school I used it to my advantage because I'd pretend I was her and people would think she was awful and that I was the good one lol.

I happy to be born the first child in my family and I'm followed by my sister. In our family all of us have green/hazel eyes and that's how people remember and recognize us most of the times. I would never want to grow under the shadow of my elders, even my parents. I'd like to become independent and self-sufficient as soon as possible.

Hi there zeethegr8 That is what I am worried about that my son will live in his brother's shadow so that is why I encourage them to do their own activities so they gain their own independance. Thanks for your response

no,i was not being called by other names. but if there is,my mother is the one.cause she has poor eyesight now and she barely see us (her children) to recognize who we are when she don't have her eyeglasses on. there are also times when i was in high school some of my classmates teased me by calling me names. like wannabe,annavi...or something like other names which i find irritating sometimes.even my siblings used to tease me by calling me other names.you know the song "im a be" by black eyed peas? that's what my sisters used to tease me.haha well,by always hearing it,i can say,i am used to it...

Hi ya annavi23 Aww your poor mum but then I call my sons by their brother's names sometimes, it depends where my head is and who I am thinking about at the time. As long as I don't call them by the pets name that will ok I guess haha Thanks for responding

The teacher needs to get her names straight. I'm sure it's hard to learn all the names but know your son wants to be called by his own name. I never had that problem that i can remember but i was older than my sister so don't guess i would. Happy tuesday to u.

Hey ANTIQUELADY I think the only reason he does it is because he taught his brother for a year and he is still in the same school. I might just have to tease the teacher about it a little bit and he is a bit of a dish hehe Thanks for your response
