Purring.

Hello Everyone, This morning, I heard my 4 year old cat purr loudly for the first time. I was so excited to hear him do it from a distance as I was petting him. Now this announcement doesn't mean that he never purred before. He did, but it was low and the only way that you could hear it is if you put your ears close to him. Is this unusual or do other cats purr low too?

Our youngest cat "Teddy", is a little over a year old. I would get so frustrated when he was a kitten because he would not purr when I would pet him! My husband or son could tip him over and pet him, and I would hear him purring VERY LOUD! I would go up to pet him....NOTHING. Finally about 2 months ago he started purring when I pet him. It's still not as loud as when my hubby pets him, I just don't get it. Cats are weird. But that's what I like about them.

I dunno I think it may depend on the cat. My male purr's lower than my females do but I think maybe it's just however the cat wants to react? I have a female who climbs into bed and starts purring so loud she could almost wake you from your sleep wanting to be petted and snuggled.
