My mother-in-law had a child with another man and did not marry him. The father refused the child, since he was married. My mother-in-law got married to another man. This new man adopted the baby when he was 5 years old. We filed for a birth certificiate for him and the adoptive father listed as father. Is there a way to get to the actual papers that has the biological fathers name on the paper. My mother-in-law just beats around the bush and really wont tell us who his real father is. She tells us that the hospital which kept the records, burnt down some time ago. I feel like she is hiding something from us.My husband is convinced that its a sealed record and cannot be opened.....My husband is now 53, I would think if he wanted the info it should be available to him. The state he was born in was Michigan.......
