I'm so excited! I could hardly wait to tell youall about this! I think I told youall in the past that my nephew was going to swap my horse, Cyrus, out for an older horse for me. He took his time about looking for a horse for me this time and he finally found one! The men who own the horse came out to look at Cyrus today and they said they definitely want him. What they are going to do is bring the horse tomorrow and get Cyrus then. The horse they are bringing is a mare and she's 19 years old! One year in a horse's life is equal to 3 years in a human's, for those of you who don't know. In other words, if she were a human, she would be 57 years old! I'm just 58 and she's a year younger than I am, lol! We should get along wonderfully, lol! At least, I hope we will, lol! Her name is "Mamma", btw. That's all I know about her right now. I will be able to tell you more about her either tomrrow or Thursday. I won't have time to ride her tomorrow because they are bringing her around 4:30 and I will have to start getting ready for church after they leave. These men also said they know the horse that I ride at the therapeutic riding center and they said that if I can ride him, I should be able to ride Mamma. When I get a chance, I will make some pictures of her and post them on here. I'm very attached to Cyrus but I know I can get just as attached to any other horse.

Like I told one mylotter, riding a horse is an awesome experience! I've been around horses since I was 7 years old and I'm now 58. I was raised on a farm and we always had cattle and horses. When I was a baby, we had pigs and sheep out here. I hope someday you will get to ride a horse and you will see what I mean.

I think so, too! It turns out that the men didn't bring Mamma today. They did come after Cyrus, though. They will probably bring Mamma tomorrow if they haven't already. They said it would be difficult to deal with a mare and a stud at the same time. I didn't think about this and I wondered how they were going to handle it.

I guess I missed the discussion about getting rid of Cyrus, or rather trading him out. I guess it is a good thing. I hope you and Mamma have a wonderful time bonding with one another.

congrats! you know i never got to experience riding a horse, in your case is it still good to handle mamma? you know, since she was not with you, nor raised by you, as i know it is hard to get along with animals if you are not the one who raised him

cool, 19 is a good age for a horse, you should have 10 or more years out with her and she should already be over the young horse crazies...
Mind you, I knew a 19 yr old horse, well, big pony actually, that still had lots of trick up her, proverbial, sleeve.
Please post pix when you get Mamma, and she might even be able to accept a new name if you don't like that one - so long as you keep that -a-a type sound as in Nana or Lala...

Yes, sometimes even older horses know all the tricks! I think I will stick with calling her Mamma because I'm sure that's what she's used to. I named Cyrus because I didn't like the name on his registration papers. I named him after my favorite country singer, Billy Ray Cyrus, lol! I told those men they could call him anything they wanted to, though.

Oh wow, that's nice! I know horses are pretty expensive hehe. But if it's okay to ask, why are you exchanging Cyrus for an older horse? Isn't it better that you have a young horse rather than an older one? I hope I'm not offending too.
Ciao!

Hello there, it is good to hear about your new horse. They are so easy to get attached to. I am sure that Mamma will have you all warm and fuzzy on the inside in not time at all! Cyrus sounds as if he might possibly be a handful! I am hoping that you and Mamma will become real attached real soon. I also hope that Cyrus is going to go to a good home where he will be just as loved as he has been with you!

I must be missing something too. Why would you want an older horse in place of your current horse?
I'd have a great deal of trouble "swapping" out an animal friend for another. The attachments I form are quite strong. It would be like ditching and old friend for a new friend, and would be too much like treating them as simple property and nothing else. But to each his/her own!
In any case, it sounds like you are looking forward to this new horse and I do wish you the best of luck in getting on with Mamma!
I love horses and wish my brother still had his 2 appaloosas that we used to ride all the time, but that was many years ago and I haven't been on a horse since.
