What was the strangest call that you ever had while working in a call center?

To this day I think that the strangest call I ever had when I was doing telemarketing was to a man in Texas. He wanted to ask me personal questions then he offered to send me pancakes through the mail and ended the call by asking me to marry him lol. I think this was a prank call but if it was not then the man is desperate. It has been the strangest call that I ever took.
The weirdest call that I made was to my best friend's ex-husband's new wife. He recognized my voice and struck up a conversation with me. I hung up the phone shaken because what are the chances of calling your best friend's ex-husband in a different state? I was worried about her because I knew something was up. That night she called and told me that the grandma who raised her had passed away. These are just a couple of the strange calls I had when I was doing telemarketing.

I once worked in a call center of a cable company and we werent allowed to hung up on custemers even if they were prank calls.
On customer called in, asking about different packages and prices but he cut me off while I was talking and asked if he could have a minute to finish something with his girlfriend.
I said 'ok' but then he made sounds like 'ah...ah.. yes..' and he was breathing hard on the phone. maybe he wanted me to think that they were doing something nasty.
Since I couldnt just finish the call, I had to call my supervisor first and make her listen to the crap before I could hang up the phone.

Hiya ddaguno,
Once I had a Caller when I was a telephonist and he was very abusive in his manner and speech.
So when he asked for the Supervisor I slammed my headset on the table as I don´t kno wanyone that would have taken such a very nasty person he went on and on and I was not allowed to hang up on him either. Most of the Girls usually did hang up on them but I did´nt so my headset got the worst end of it. I nearly did lose my rag with that guy but in the end I said very nicely "its a pleasure she will help you out right now", and even the Supervisor got mad with him as well so you can see what he was like.
When I got up and left the headset on it´s own everyone looked at me astounded they had never seen me lose my temper at all. Well I did just a bit (grin). He was a very trying person and I have had loads of them to deal with before but not as bad as this one.
I also had to work on the "999" Service too and there you cannot hang up on People and you have to have lots of patience and understanding.

Hiya LH,
Have had so many of those "weird" calls too. Sometimes I take them with a sense of humour and other times I just hang up on them right away.
There has been one or two calls that are very personal and would not like to say anything about them. But yes they were very strange calls and I remember to this very Day and I was not able to do anything about what happened before or after.
One kept calling and so I said he´s moved and he´s on holiday at the moment so you will have to wait a Month for him to come back and then you will have to find his new number too which won´t be this one.
Have not heard back from that one yet (grin).
That has happened to me with other numbers too so I don´t have a hang up about the number but the People who call here have
Just let them get on with it.
Most of the pranks I have played on those Callers that will insist time and time again are in Spanish not bad pranks just little jokes it´s just that they don´t have a sense of humour either.

ya i received a call - that was weird and dirty. It was a telecommunication call . i was angry, burning with angry so that i hangup, but i noted the number i went out, i called him from a telephone booth and gave all the bad words which i knew. Then i felt better. So now when i receive a good call its OK, if not then the person who called has to regret that- why did he call.

Lol I so wish I could have done that but where I worked was outbound calling only and we did not have the numbers. The computer dialed numbers for us.

I worked the late shift too and there were quite a few odd calls. I agree the strange ones seem to come out more at night and even more strange when there is a full moon lol.

The irate customers are not so fun. I quit telemarketing when I was pregnant with my son because I was so emotional I would cry over anything.

The strangest call I ever had while working in a call center is when I got a call from a kid asking me to transfer him to a certain number because his one of the family members is in a hospital and he badly needs to be connected to them immediately. I transferred the call to the number he gave me but I did a conference call without the kid knowing. When I listened to the conversation, the kid is just chatting with another kid and they are just talking non-sense. I just hang up on them after about 3 minutes so I can take a rest while before another call.

I was a campaign caller and the strangest call I have ever gotten is "Is this Pizza Hut?" Well, we were located next to a Pizza Hut, so it made perfect since for the guy to ask if it was Pizza Hut. I told him that it wasn't, and then say, "Are you a registered voter because if you are can you please vote 'yes' on Bond Measure G?" My coworkers couldn't stop laughing.

he he that's funny. I think i have had a few stories too when it comes to received calls in a call center.. the thing wa si cannot really remember most of them now - its been 7 years since i have worked as an agent answering calls.
I remember just one client who have cursed the hell out of the company, and then i think it was also the same client that said that he will sue me, got my name and then when the issue he had has been resolved - he sent a letter saying sorry for threatening me. haha

I was working in an inbound callcenter before as a customer service representative and the strangest call I receive before was a mistaken call from 911. I can hear background noises of fighting and killing, but I did transferred the call to 911 and hook it up to the operator. People are always mistaken to dial that number since the customer service hotline was 611. It's really weird to have this call.

Hi Lindaharding,
I have never worked in a call center but I've been on the receiving end of those calls. I would say the man was really messing with you. I hate being interrupted at home by calls from telemarketers. Those calls rank right up there on the annoyance scale with the people that knock on your door to sell something or talk religion. I either ignore their calls or if I'm in the mood I will answer and just act off the wall just to annoy them as much as they annoy me. I know it is a job and all but seriously...most people really really hate the calls. At one point I was getting so many of them that I had to find a way to enjoy them and that is what I did.

i did have experienced a lot of strange calls. Most of them are perverts and doesn't really call to buy a phone (i'm a telemarketer as well) but to do somethign nasty while listening to your beautiful voice. but my most memorable phone call at work was when i talked to an old lady, we started the conversation like she was so irate and really unsatisfied. so being a trained associate i comforted her and talk her out of her unsatisfaction. she became at ease with and become telling me stories about her life and her son's life. she made talk to her son and before the call ends she invited me for dinner to their house and ask me if i could be her daughter-in-law. It was really funny but what was more funny was 2 days after she called again and talked to a different agent who happens to be sitting beside me and she was looking for me because she really wants her son to meet with me. This continued for a month that she kept on calling just to ask for me. It was memorable and was also heart warming when you know you touch other's lives.
