i am having a hard time with my 6 yr old son and his homework. he has spelling words that have to be written out every night. he can sound out the letter sounds just fine but then he either forgets what he was doing or gets it all mixed up in his head. he always ends up really frustrated and upset because he cant figure them out on his own right away. we think he might have some form of adhd but his doctor and teachers have yet to do anything. he starts speech in about a week and im hoping that will help. until then i dont know what to do. i tell him the word and he has to write it down like a normal spelling test. is there a better way i could do it? i dont quite understand the attention problems he has so i dont know how to get him to focus on things for very long. if there are any suggestions i would really appreciate it.

You might try breaking it up into smaller pieces of time. Like only do two words, small break then two more words followed by a short break. Maybe breaking it up would help him not feel overwhelmed by seeing all of it in front of him to do all at once.
