How do you come up with a company name?

My friends and I are setting up a business, and we are thinking of the company name. It's a hotel reservation website. I'd prefer a name that's catchy and easy to pronounce, so it'll be easier for others to mention our company name or web site when they think about booking hotel online, and also it's easy for the visitors to remember. My another friend think it'd be better if the name is not connected to any specific culture or religion. What do you consider when you think about a company name? How did you come up with your company name? Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks!

You have to come up with something that you love and something that is catchy. You and your friends have to agree on it. This is a copy written name, so no one get any bright ideas, but my boyfriend's small company (it's something that he and his friends started a while back) is called "Cheap Meat Entertainment", and it is named after the money in the game that they all like to play. The people who made the game gave them their seal of approval, and they ran with it. What kind of business are y'all trying to come up with?

Hi there, Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I agree with you that we have to come up with something we like, but I'm also gathering ideas on how I can come up with some names. I do not have much ideas yet, that's why I'm seeking for some inspirations. We are trying to set up an online hotel reservation website.

I don't have a company so I can't speak from experience. But how about just the simple roombook.com or reserveithere.com or reservehotel.com, etc. Like you say simple and recognizable for what it is.

Hi stealthy, Thanks for your suggestion! They are all nice names. I wouldn't have thought of that. I'll keep them in my list, and discuss it with my friend.

How do you want people to feel when they use your service? Your business name should reflect the consumer feelings you wish to convey. Checkout the competition to see the names of the top competitors; avoid similiarities to the worst. Remember not to copy, just study what your consumers are attacted to. Make sure it is "sing-song" that flows off the tongue. If multiple words are used, make sure they work together like a well oiled machine; sounds can attract or repell just like color. Keep it simple, make it memorable, inviting and catchy, throw in trustworthiness for good measure and you'll have the perfect company name.

I think that it would be a mistake to connect your company name to a culture or a religion. However, I think that it would be right to associate your company name with the hotel business in general because then it will be easier for your potential customers to be able to associate your business with hotels. The reason that I believe it would be wrong to have a connection with culture or religion is because I think there would be some people that would feel like they are excluded from your company's customer base.

Hello kaka135, Before we also have our own company, this is a small store managed by my father. My father named the company after the initials of his siblings - me, my brother and 2 other sisters. We are lucky since the initials jive together and it is easy to pronounce. Though, we dont have any website for that company. My father opt to use our names initials since according to him, we are his inspiration in putting-up this store. In addition, we are also the reason why my father established the business. With these reasons I mentioned above, I hope these will somehow assist you in coming-up of a good name for your upcoming business. Maybe you can also use your name initials to come-up a unique and bright name. Or perhaps, you can also named it after your favorite flower or a thing that will register easily to the mind of your prospective clients. Any name you will choose will surely a win-win idea. Since, it will be coming from the minds of a team work. Goodluck to your coming field of endeavour.

My friend and I also came up a company name simply from our initials, and we put our initials together and add LLC or partnership something like that, that is the easiest way, I guess.

Well, it's important that your company name has to be catchy, which was what you had in mind. I agree that coming up with a company name is very very very hard. It can't be any simple word or else any Tom or Harry will be able to do so. For me, I let my imaginations run wild. Meaning, I try to look around my surroundings to see if I can come up with anything. Perhaps you can take maybe two of two-syllabled words and take the first syllable of each word and combine together. Be creative. I think you can be better than me. ~Good luck!~

I've had a few businesses and came up with names a variety of ways. The first businesses I started I used vanity and just named them with some variation of my name. Later I learned it is best to pick a company name that tells what the company does. With the internet I now try to find a name that reflects what the company does and also is available with a .com extension.

try thinking of a phrase that relates to the business you are in or if all else fails just use your last names.
