I have always wanted to go to America and I am planning a trip to Los Angeles to go and see a couple of Lakers games at Staples Center. I know about the likes of LA Live and of course Hollywood but what other places would you recommend I visit in Los Angeles and in the area around the City?? I really want to see different areas and would be pleased to see places I would not have thought of.

The question isn't "What to do in Los Angeles?" it should be "What not to do in Los Angeles?" There are millions of things to do in LA.
By the way, I live in Los Angeles, so here comes the break down:
Hollywood: Mann's Chinese Theater, totally want to see this if you can and I think Ripley's is also there as well?
Olvera Street, Chinatown, Little Tokyo and The Museums (The Science Center, the Air and Space Museum, and the History Museum) are great places to go to.
The Disney Concert Hall, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Staple Center, The Convention Center and the Music Center.
There are so many places to go to, but this is just a few that I have to name. I been to just about everywhere.

I have visited Los Angeles three times in my life so far. The first time I was there I saw Hollywood, Beverley Hills, the Universal Studios, Disneyland California, Santa Monica and Venice Beach. I couldn't believe the length of time from leaving the huge airport to my accommodation in Santa Monica. The second time I went to Los Angeles I arrived at Union Station at midnight. I was scared but it was completely safe. I got a bus all the way to Santa Monica. The third time I went to Los Angeles I stayed at Venice Beach and found that a fun location to be in. I hope that you will have a lovely time in and around Los Angeles.

I live about 25 minutes or so from LA, but I agree...what isn't there to do in LA? It feels like the city never sleeps, it's doesn't have as much of a night life as Las Vegas in the fact that Vegas never sleep, but chances are there is something going on 24/7 that you can take part in! I can count the number times that I've been to LA on one hand, but each time I've gone...it's been fun. I would check out all of the places that were listed to you, but if you don't mind traveling a little further (about 20 miles) to the coast, you should check out Santa Monica. The pier is a pretty popular aspect of southern California and is one of a kind in my opinon. I've never been, granted I'd love to go. It resembles a small amusement park on the pier and has a fun look to it.
Best of luck to you and your trip. :)
