That was me, trying to ride a bicycle in the rain (slowly of course). ^_^
I found out that I could control my bike with my left hand but not the other, it's very strange as I am a right-hander. However, it doesn't matter as long as I can control it. Now I have seen some people who can ride with their hands inside their pockets and I was impressed. Wow, that was a fine skill to have! So I have tried to practise a bit. I was aware of the danger so I would do it in a safe place, it was more for fun then trying to show off. It could also come in useful the next time there is rain. lol.
Well, my question is, do you try to learn new skills? What have you learnt recently and how do you like it?

Some bikes are more stable than others,so that you can ride them hands free...I used to do this all the time on the bike I had in my teens..I think I'd prefer to have a rainsuit for bad weather rather than try to ride with an umbrella,in case a gust of wind would turn it into a parachute and take Me off!

Hi Shepherd,
I was lucky there wasn't any wind that day then! I didn't think of that, I was already light enough to be blown away with the parachute. lol.

Reading old German script so I could translate some old letters? Learned a lot about the family, Germany in those days, etc.

well moon....
the last skill i have learnt is leaving both hands from handles of my bike with a speed of 50 to 60kmph. although i have learnt but don't practice all the time. but when i was a student, i went to school with the other guys of my colony and we had various competition at that time and most of them were very scary. have a nice day.

When I was young, I did a lot of jumping down from the stairs. I even managed to jump down one whole flight at times. We are always more fearless when we were young. Of course now I don't dare to do anything dangerous. The most recent daring feat was when I went parachuting in Bali, it was an exciting adventure for me.

shib...
You are already making me shiver with your description....
50-60kmph is very fast, you need a really empty road for that, make sure you don't knock into anything. I don't suppose you do that anymore?

Hello bluemoonpavilion,
I can ride with my hands in my pocket. If the road is clear and the turning convenient i could even take a turn without touching my handlebar. It's not that difficult, but be careful, lol. I like to try out interesting things as well. There is lot of fun doing it. I have a friend who rides his cycle with damaged brakes. I had my cycle that way for many days too, until one day.... I Crashed! LOL. A huge stream of students were coming from the front(no motored vehicles allowed in our college campus, only bicycles) and i had no cover at all. They blocked me totally and i had no brakes so well.... BAAM!! My front tyre rim got bent badly and it was a funny scene because after i crashed. I and my fellow crashie were so shocked that we stood still with our heads bowed down towards the road until we could realize that we crashed hard! LOL. Lucky no one was hurt.! Funny i was thinking of starting a discussion about my crash today. But that wasn't recent, it was like an year ago, the crash hehe but still.. I was thinking of it to share it with you all here. Thanks.. hehe.. :)
LOL.

hehehe.. It was okay, as no one was hurt and the students around were watching us, LOL. After i crashed we din say a word to each other, i had to park the damaged cycle which caught everyones attention, coz it showed the seriousness of the crash. With that tyre rim, you could expecting someone might have broken his leg or something, oops. But, nothing happened, no scratches either. The rim absorbed all of the shock lol. I had to park soon, everybody was watching me.. Please i am getting late! I ran for class!

voldrox! I was quite shocked to read your crash! It sounds so dangerous...how can you ride without brakes...That would be the first thing I fix if it is damaged.
I have tried to learn to ride without hands many times but it is difficult, I don't know how you can make a turning like that too. You must have a very good sense of balance.

Hi blue!
When I first started playing football it was by accident that I discovered that my left kick was just as powerful. Over the years I've actually realized that my left kick was indeed better. Strange though because I am a right-hander. But I have never bothered to find out why as long as I enjoy playing the game.
I'm learning to use my left hand to manage the keypad on my handphone while my right can be scribbling some notes at the same time.

Hi tomi!

Until now I have not learnt it and I don't think I ever will, not intelligent enough...hahaha.
I have seen some kids who can sms with one hand while they are crossing the road or something, seems very dangerous!

It sure seems like fun to watch and ride with one hand and with one hand on the umbrella but is ounds really dangerous to me.One slip and we could have our wits put into place.I try not to do anything crazy especially with things on wheels. As far as doing new things I love to learn new instruments and am trying to learn the guitar.

Hi dbeast,
To do that, there is some technique involved and one can succeed with practice, but I do agree that it is dangerous and shouldn't be attempted unless forced to.
It is nice to learn how to play a musical instrument, we can provide a lot of entertainment for ourselves.

hi bluemoonpavilion thats a picture and a half. I used to be ambidexterous but my shoulder fracture and shoulder joint replacement
queered that talent forever. I have learned though that although my quad cane is meant to be used by a right handed person I can if push comes to shove carry packages in my l eft hand and use the right handed quad can with my left hand. feels odd but I can do it far enough to put the packages in my room. I would not do this outside as I do not want to chance another fall. I like the idea that for short distances I can use that cane in my left hand. its ever so much easier to carry packages in my right hand now for me.

Hi Hatley,
Thats sounds as dangerous to me as the one who rides without hands! Maybe you can get a shoulder bag and carry things on your shoulder instead of in your hands, then your hands can be free to hold on to your cane or handrails.

That is a useful skill to have, I have tried that myself, but until now, the handwriting written by my left hand looks like something written by a kid or a crazy person lol. It's very hard to master.

If i tried to ride a bike with one hnd while holding an umbrella with the other i probably would have ended up on the ground. I am always up to a new challenge though. I wouldn;'t say that I wouldn;t try it.

Sometimes I need to use my handphone or hold something with one hand, so I have some practice using one hand. It is still relatively easy. But when it is raining and holding the umbrella is not so easy because the ground is wet and it is very difficult to brake with one hand.

Hi, bluemoonpavilion!
Great! You have such a good equilibrium sense! I fell down from a bike when practicing to ride in my childhood even with all my hands on the handlebars, and I dare not ride bikes since that time.
But why not buy a raincoat? It's dangerous to ride with one or none hand on the handlebars.

Hi qianyun!
What a bad experience you had :(
But I thought all Chinese can ride bikes? Sorry, didn't mean to jump to conclusions. It is a pity that you do not ride bikes, it is such a good form of exercise.
I only ride it during weekends and only to somewhere near like the train station which would be about 15-20 mins walk but only 5 mins by bike. I was on my way home when it rained suddenly, so had to do that balancing act. I think people laughed at the awkward way I was rding.

I find that I can talk, think and type all at the same time and still be able to concentrate on all three simultaneously.
It nutty I know but this is how my brain functions, but do not ask about movie titles as for some reason I cannot remember them even if you told me ten times.

That is such a useful feat of yours, I don't think I can do that, especially the talking part have to be separated out from the others.
Let's do it this way, how about you tell me the content of the movie and I tell you the title? lol.

This is a perfect discussion for skills because I just recently learned how to ride a motorcycle. Yes! I did it. At first my father won't allow me to try such thing but I guess I'm a spoiled brat and I always get what I want. But it was not my father who taught me how to ride it, I ask my younger brother to teach me and we borrowed my dad's bike. Eventually my dad agreed because he don't have any other choice (I already have the key to his bike)LOL! It was really cool! A girl that can ride a bike is sexy for me. LOL!

Not bad, that is a great skill. I know a girl who made 9 attempts trying to pass her motorcycle test, it is really not easy for a girl to learn to ride it. I think your dad is concerned for your safety. Now that you know how to ride and he is convinced, it is time to show him that you are sensible and can take care of yourself. Do not make him worry about you.
