What are your thoughts on Quantum Computing

I was reading recently about how if they manage it, one chip would have more power than all computers combined. Somehow they manage to move ions without even needing circuits, making the space needed insanely small. Trouble is that they can only move a few at a time right now with a whole lab. I wonder if they will pull it off, or if its one of those "great on paper" sorta ideas that never pans out.
